4th and less than 1. Down 3. 5 minutes left in the game.

I really thought we should go for it there. McVay chose to tie the game.

Alls well that ends well and this ended well - but what did you think of the call?

It's really difficult. There are pros and cons for each choice. Given the importance of the game and how well the D was playing, I can understand why he sent GZ on.

Of course, Joyner then made that call look worse than it was with that pathetic attempt on the long Ginn completion.

I think being aggressive is the way the NFL is headed generally and I'm glad we've got a HC that thinks that way most of the time (the anti-Fisher) but that doesn't mean the safer decision is always wrong.

I wanted to go for it, just like they did against Dallas with the same call to Anderson, however, the announcers brought up a good point, to lineup and call the play with the noise and have everyone moving in cohesion might have factored into the decision.

I think I would have went for but I'm glade I did not have to make that decision. Although thanks to that hit on Brees by Fowler and the interception by Johnson, oh yea and the 57 yard field-gold by the Leg it looks like the right move.

I was almost expecting him to do for it too. But it seems like McVay's thoughts were not to blow it for his players when they could tie it pretty much automatically. On the fake punt though that was desperation and they needed that to get back into the game. Man there was a lot of clutch going on in that game by the Rams... the stars were aligned!

It was the right call to me. Hell, just two plays earlier (IIRC), Goff lost the snap. The chances of getting it in there are 50/50. The odds of GZ missing a chip shot from there for the tie are astronomical.

the D was playing great at that point... McVay was counting on forcing a punt and getting the ball back.

I think he should have gone for it. Even if they don't manage to score the Saints are starting a drive from their own 1 with 5 minutes left, trying to run the clock out. There's a decent chance the Rams still get their shot at a FG.

In hindsight it was the right decision.

When Hekker passed instead of punting, for a brief moment time seemed to stand still as Shields caught it then had to get the first down.

I was shouting at the TV for him to get TG and CJ in the game more. Credit to the Saints run defense. Then Goff came into his own.

McVay knows what he is doing.

Nah he made the wrong call. Win probability shows it too.

Being down three with NO on their 1 is almost better than being tied and kicking off to Brees. I have all the confidence in the world that our d would have stopped them and we'd have had more time and better field position down 3 - if we failed to convert.

In that environment I would assume they weren't confident in the O Line getting the push required

Good Call

I thought it was the wrong call, but in the end, that is an extremely tough decision to make and you can hardly fault a coach for taking the points.

Still, if you trust your defence enough to give Brees the ball back after the FG.... why don't you trust them enough to get the ball back for you if the Saints are pinned at their own 1 yard line? (assuming we we fail to score the TD). I will say that if we fail to convert there, that place will be absolutely jumping (not that it wasn't already nuts).... and there was so little time left that we might well not have ever gotten the momentum back.

In the end we won, so it doesn't matter if it was the right call or not, and hindsight is always 20/20.

Well if the Refs didn't "blow the call" on the obvious face mask on Goff, we would have had 1st and goal from the 1, burned some clock and had a 4 point lead....

Championship teams overcome those missed calls!!

If you're in a shootout, go for it. If your defense is playing well like ours was, tie the game. Mcvay made the right call.
