Russell Wilson has lived a mostly criticism-free existence in Seattle, particularly when it comes to his coaches calling him out publicly. But the fourth-year quarterback has struggled with consistency this season, most recently during the Seahawks' Sunday night loss to division rival Arizona in a game where Wilson completed just 44 percent of his passes for 240 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

And it was that pick that was one of the most egregious mistakes Wilson made in the game. Wide receiver Doug Baldwin had beaten safety Tyrann Mathieu on a double move but Wilson couldn't connect.

"We had full progression, kind of across the board for that one," said Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell during an appearance on KJR Radio. "We had a chance for (Tyler) Lockett, we had a chance for Doug, and basically Russell said he just missed it."

Then there was a failed two-point conversion, where again the blame was put squarely on Wilson('s arm).

"Well we had a good look, we had the look that we wanted," Bevell explained. "He had Doug, he was number three (innermost receiver in a trips formation), really had him as an inside seam. Then you had Jermaine (Kearse) as well, as another option. Jermaine kind of got tackled a little bit on that play.

"You just have to make a better throw on it. He had an opportunity to give Doug a chance and really didn't give him a chance. Particularly on that type of situation, you want to make sure you give your guys an opportunity to make a play."

Then, on another two-point conversion attempt, Wilson had trouble getting on the same page as tight end Jimmy Graham.

"I think you've got to make sure that you give him a chance," Bevell continued. "We're working him every day in practice. I think by the way that was our first pass interference call against one of our wideouts or tight ends this season that they ended up calling on Jimmy. That ended up being a great play for us, but we want to be able to give Jimmy a chance to be able to make a play. Whether it's that one, whether it's the two-point play, or any others

There's more: Wilson, who has been sacked 33 times this season, went down twice against the Cardinals. Offensive line coach Tom Cable, who is holding the O-line together with duct tape and chicken wire, blamed Wilson for both sacks. And Cable's right; one sack happened when Wilson ran out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage, and the other was a modified version of the Butt Fumble thanks to Wilson crashing into left tackle Russell Okung.

According to Football Outsiders, Wilson ranks 18th in total QB value, behind Brian Hoyer, Tyrod Taylor and Alex Smith. But Football Outsiders also ranks the Seahawks, despite their 4-5 record, as the NFL's fifth-best team, thanks to the No. 11 (16th in passing, third in rushing) offense and the No. 7 defense (seventh against the pass, 11th against the run).

While that's a pleasant surprise, the reality is that Seattle needs to start winning games if it's going to get back in the playoff hunt. And for that to happen, Wilson has to play a lot better
