I like the idea of being in some veteran talent across the O line to compete with the young guys.
Albert was good in KC, no idea about the last couple of years.
A guy like him who could be had for a reasonable rate makes sense. Not to just replace the young guys but to compete for spots. Best case guys like Grob and Brown kick butt and lock down starting spots, not by default, but based on play. The vets then give much improved depth. If the vets in the spots the line is improved and the younger players hopefully develop while providing depth.

I don't think 32, for a Lineman, is that Old. Look at players like Jackie Slater!! He played 20 years!
Pretty hard to compare ANYONE to Slater. 32 is long in the tooth these days and he missed 4 games last season.

Branden Albert
Football offensive tackle
Branden Albert is an American football offensive tackle who is currently a free agent. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs 15th overall in the 2008 NFL Draft after playing college football at Virginia. Wikipedia

Born: November 4, 1984 (age 32 years), Rochester, NY
Height: 6′ 5″
Weight: 315 lbs
School: University of Virginia
Current team: Miami Dolphins (#76 / Tackle)
Siblings: Sylvia Albert, Ashley Albert

Got to look at him. Would be an improvement of GRob. He could have 2 good years of production. I don't know much else about him. Good size for OT.

We don't have a first rounder this year to blow on another LT, so after doing their due diligence in researching guys like Albert, they need to overpay for the guys(s) they can get 2-3 years of production out of. They can also teach tricks to the current Oline. We need veteran experience I think..

Report: Dolphins, Jags working on Branden Albert – Julius Thomas swap
Posted by Zac Jackson on February 19, 2017

The Dolphins and Jaguars are working on a trade involving offensive tackle Branden Albert and tight end Julius Thomas, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

The report said there are hurdles that still need to be cleared, including the possibility that the players involved might need to restructure their contracts.

It was reported last week that the Dolphins would release Albert, but that didn’t happen. It does seem clear that he’s not in the team’s 2017 plans, and the Jaguars were immediately linked to Albert as a potential suitor.

The players involved would have to pass physicals, and no deal could become official until the new league year begins on March 9.

Thomas is under contract through 2019, and $3 million of his $7.1 million 2017 salary is already guaranteed. Thomas caught four touchdown passes in nine games for the Jaguars last season and had his best seasons with the Broncos when Dolphins head coach Adam Gase was the offensive coordinator in Denver.

The Dolphins are in the tight end market with both Dion Sims and Jordan Cameron eligible for free agency next month. The Jaguars are in the tackle market because they won’t be picking up the 2017 contract option on Kelvin Beachum.

Moving on from Albert would save the Dolphins about $7.2 million in cap space for 2017. The team is expected to move 2016 first-round pick Laremy Tunsil out from guard to take Albert’s spot at left tackle.

Julius Thomas never materialized in Jacksonville and they need OL help too so the trade makes sense.

Report: Branden Albert to Jags for a draft pick, not Julius Thomas
Posted by Darin Gantt on February 20, 2017

The Dolphins and Jaguars are talking about a trade which would send left tackle Branden Albert to Jacksonville, but it appears he is the only player involved in the deal.

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the teams have agreed to a deal that would send Albert north for a late-round pick in 2018.

The deal isn’t necessarily complete, and Albert continues to talk to the Jaguars about a way to sweeten his deal to get him to avoid the freedom of the open market.

While the Dolphins might have some degree of interest in Thomas, they might not at his current contract terms, and the Albert-for-pick swap might be a way around that.

.

Albert for 2018 7th.

Julius Thomas for 2017 7th.

So in reality the end result of both trades was Albert and a 2017 7th for Thomas and a 2018 7th.
