The Dolphins plan to release veteran offensive tackle Branden Albert, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Thursday.

Albert, 32, spent the last three seasons with the Dolphins and made his second Pro Bowl in 2015. He played his first six seasons with the Chiefs.

The Dolphins drafted Laremy Tunsil in the first round last year and played him mostly at guard as a rookie, but releasing Albert does not come as a surprise because the team sees Tunsil as its left tackle of the future.

Albert had two years left on his contract and was due to make $8.8 million in 2017 had he stayed with the Dolphins.

Albert started all 12 games for which he was healthy last season. He becomes an interesting addition to the free agent tackle market. Earlier this week, the Jets declined to pick up the option on Ryan Clady and the Jaguars decided the same with Kelvin Beachum, making both free agents next month.

Oline HAS to be fixed this year.Goff can not take the
same pounding another year.We may be forced to use
band-aid type players in some positions. If that is the case
at LT,would not be opposed to picking him up at a decent wage.

Man...His age though is a little disconcerting. Sign him a 1 year? Just to train up the young bucks? We do need OL experience...

I don't think 32, for a Lineman, is that Old. Look at players like Jackie Slater!! He played 20 years!

The Rams need to kick the tires of every decent FA O lineman. Leave no stone unturned!

Seems to be a trend now for several season now ...with so many super freaks who are unbelievable athletes playing 34 OSLB'ers as edge rushers .....are taking their toll on the former all pro aging OLT's. Much easier to find these defensive gems today than finding effective LT's to combat or just hold their own against them. Shame Wade Phillips does not have any here on this Rams roster.

Wade's task will be to get a two years running, unhealthy & damaged 43 DE to perform a new standup 34 edge OLB'er. Rob Quinn who had the talent & skills back in 2014 to be a perfect player for this role, now in 2017 will be under the microscope from day one to see just what he has left & how well he will settle in. Most of ROD members are of the belief this problem is "nothing to see here" No problem Mode.

Got to look at him. Would be an improvement of GRob. He could have 2 good years of production. I don't know much else about him. Good size for OT.

So many aging, injury prone and expensive LT coming available. Wouldn't sign any of them unless it was a cheap prove you can stay healthy deal.

Shit I'll take him. It's been like we don't have a LT anyways with how G Rob plays. Albert just doesn't have to get penalized and we are already in the black. Sign my ass up!

Branden Albert - T - Dolphins
The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins have decided to hold off on releasing LT Branden Albert, and are "apparently going to pause and assess the possibilities."

Only the Dolphins. Truly, only the Dolphins. Per ace reporter Armando Salguero, the Dolphins and Albert agreed to his release on Thursday morning, but the team has had an about-face due to "sudden and significant interest from at least one and perhaps other teams in acquiring Albert." It means the Dolphins will probably keep Albert on the roster through the start of the new league year on March 9. They are doing Albert dirty, not letting him choose his own team, and potentially severely depressing his value. Instead of having the market all to himself right now, Albert could end up having to fight for scraps in the second phase of free agency.

Sign albert, move Grob over to Guard.

Albert, Grob, C, Saffold, Hav. Not a bad looking line.

Exactly, rather than an outright release, now they'll hold him for trade value, which no team should do because the Dolphins are going to release him and they're going to show potential free agents that they don't value the careers of players, just and only how the org can leverage their position, even if it costs a guy millions.

Miami, SF and Cleveland are 3 clubs that I can think of that are pits for players.

If we want to add to the oline via FA... not many young guys come available... so, we're going to have to add someone a little older like this.

Yeah, but there aren't a whole lot of Jackie Slaters running around...

Although, considering how lousy out offensive line was last year, I think Jackie would be an improvement right now! ;)

I'm still all in on drafting Garrett Bolles.
