11:56 1st Quarter, Rams ball on their 18, 1st and 10. Rams defense just held the Browns to kick things off. McVay opens things up with a run.

Pre-snap:
1569425057966.png

At the fake to Woods the action is ignored by the Browns' defense:
1569425316710.png

At the handoff the blocking isn't too bad, although Allen isn't faring well with the NT (he's in the middle of giving up a little ground and hasn't managed to turn/seal). Boom & Whit prepare to kick out their blocking assignments:
1569426043254.png

There is still hope in the B & C gaps though and at this moment Boom & Whit make their blocks:
1569425852077.png

As Gurley hits the hole we see the NT still squared up. Boom meanwhile gets zero movement on his assignment (straight stands him up). Whit loses his assignment:
1569426394428.png

Minimal gain as Allen & Whits guys converge on TG (if either one of them make their block we have a very good gainer). Boom btw has recovered and gets a good seal removing his dude from the play:

10:57 1st Quarter, Rams on their 24, 3rd and 4. McVay elects to pass.

Pre-snap empty set:
1569427349463.png

Protections at the drop show Everett open underneath right in front of Goff for what would be a very difficult situation for the Browns (would easily be a first down and maybe more). But his eyes are on Woods:
1569427481868.png

Coverages at the drop show Gurley bottom screen and Woods right above him. Both are covered but Goff doesn't move off them:
1569427601534.png

Goff tries to force a back shoulder to Woods for the incompletion. Time to punt:

09:04 1st Quarter, Rams on their 14, 1st and 10. Backed up again after a nice punt by the Browns, McVay (or maybe Goff due to the pre-snap look) dials up a boot...

Pre-snap look with the Browns loading up the weak side:
1569429225114.png

At the fake we have 9 defenders on or past the right hash, great look for the Rams:
1569429390487.png

Coverage at the fake:
1569429452679.png

At the rollout Cooks is open underneath. Woods is also open over the top but more difficult/lower percentage throw:
1569429539129.png

Completion to Cooks for 18 yards and a first down:
1569429695609.png

08:58 1st Quarter, Rams on their 34, 1st and 10. Time to mash on the ground...

Pre-snap:
1569429910429.png

At the handoff things look pretty good. Already a nice hole left side A gap with Allen turning his assignment out and Boom moving his the other way with his rush. Whit is trying to get second level to remove 53 but can't get through quick enough. Gurley probably doesn't see 53 and is seeing all that green off left tackle.
1569429974829.png

As Gurley approaches the LOS with his shoulders squared up he does still have the option to take the A gap hole for what would be a very nice gain. It would also counter Boom losing his guy through the B gap:
1569430301127.png

Boom's guy gets free and Gurley bounces it outside:
1569430394969.png

53 makes Gurley sidestep and slows his roll a bit:
1569430525180.png

Boom & Kupp's assignments beat their blocks and the safety is there, minimal gain:

08:30 1st Quarter, Rams on their 35, 2nd and 7. McVay goes for the throat here with a great call...

Pre-snap:
1569431841347.png

Secondary pre-snap:
1569432030218.png

Protections at the drop look great:
1569432154220.png

Coverage at the drop shows Goff wants Woods. Corner has a bit of an outside technique going, but there's a small window. Cooks is smothered. Kupp is open underneath opposite side. Goff throwing here just as Woods makes his break:
1569432356224.png

Goff makes a big boy throw here (DB can't get to the perfectly placed ball for the INT). We can see that if Woods makes this catch it is almost surely a TD. Big points left on the field, incomplete pass:

08:16 1st Quarter, Rams ball on their 35, 3rd and 7. Another pass here to try to get the first down...

Pre-snap:
1569432795228.png

Pre-snap coverage:
1569433038074.png

Protections at the drop:
1569433094410.png

Coverages at the drop show Cooks open. Kupp top of the screen (might be JRey) is about to run by his man. Two good options not counting the underneath route that might not make the conversion on third down:
1569433245636.png

Goff is late on the throw IMO but gets it there for a big first down:

07:59 1st Quarter, Rams on their 49, 1st and 10. In the face of an 8 man box and single high look McVay goes pass here...

Pre-snap:
1569433624510.png

Pre-snap coverages note the Browns are playing pretty straight up btw, i.e. with all the injuries this isn't a secondary who can switch up looks they tend to play what they show. I suspect McVay wants a single high look btw:
1569433806571.png

Protections at the fake show the LBs & safety biting hard:
1569434157888.png

Protections at the drop once again are outstanding:
1569434220240.png

Coverage at the drop show Cooks at the bottom is wide open and about to hit his break:
1569434333660.png

Goff's pass is high but catchable. Cooks can't hang on:

07:35 1st Quarter, Rams ball at midfield, 1st and 10. Back to the run here...

Pre-snap shows a run-friendly 6 man box:
1569434653706.png

At the handoff we see a nice trap motion with Boom pulling to crack down on the backside. Everett moving to his assignment (53):
1569434782719.png

As Gurley hits the hole he's got a decision to make... Take on 22 or cut it left where there's more defenders:
1569434913023.png

Gurley cuts left, 5 yard gain:
1569435028644.png

06:32 1st Quarter, Rams on opposing 40, 1st and 10. Previous play was a quick screen to Kupp to keep the drive going. Rams back to the ground game...

Pre-snap:
1569435812281.png

At the handoff we see the OL walling things off pretty good, not sure what Boom is doing here. He should be planting a hand in the armpit of 96 then push second level. IMO the basic structure of a good run is almost there on yet another run play:
1569436085370.png

Gurley hits the LOS by running squarely into Allen's @$$. I would think he'd throw his shoulder into 96 and try to squeeze yards here through that seam but he doesn't. One yard gain.

The o-line has been very inconsistent and probably the main factor why our offense hasn't been the same, the interior is now completely suspect 100%. Havenstein has been pretty bad and while Whit has been taking some heat, remember he's been next to an absolute stud in Saffold the past two years. Now he has to help a young, raw, Noteboom all the time inside so that will leave him more susceptible than in the past especially on the outside.

Even with the o-line issues McVay and Goff both need to be better. I respect the half time changes we've been making, but McVay knows people are going to be playing a ton of 6-1 against us, we need to come out quicker. But we're not running the ball the same and Gurley hasn't been as dynamic in the passing game so that puts more on Goff. That 3rd down play to Everett is a prime example of a play that HAS to be made. Everett wins quick off the line, within 5 yards and Jared has to see that. Even if his eyes are in the direction of Woods to the left, you have to give a quick glance or his progression process has to speed up somehow. Everett was in the middle of the field, that's not too much to ask like he was on the right hash or something. Jared has to recognize and see that quickly, but can things like that be coached? Overall I think Goff played well under pressure, WRs didnt help him early and can't really fault him for the first INT. McVay needs to get in the lab and dial some shit up this week.

05:53 1st Quarter, Rams ball on opposing 38, 2nd and 9. McVay goes to a TE screen here.

Pre-snap:
1569436667168.png

At the fake only 51 adjusts to the jet action (51 has edge/responsibility):
1569436806735.png

At the throw you can see Whit held his guy up too long, allowing for him to be closer to Everett:
1569436901941.png

Coverage at the throw:
1569436953184.png

As Everett gets his head around all he's gotta do is follow the linemen up the field and you're talking 5+ yards easy:
1569437045422.png

Instead he inexplicably runs towards the sideline underneath Woods' block:
1569437154713.png

Playin down to the Browns continues:

05:20 1st Quarter, Rams on opposing 34, 3rd and 5. Here we have the defining play of the drive, which tbh shouldn't be necessary. But here we are and McVay goes back to the well yet again with another quick screen but this one the Browns are all over...

Pre-snap:
1569437527227.png

At the snap things don't look too bad, i.e. outside edge might provide:
1569437966956.png

At the catch Cooks can't handle the defender and he gets the edge:
1569438101299.png

Loss of one yard, Rams settle for a FG:

11:41 2nd Quarter, Rams on their 25, 1st and 10. Browns just drove down the field, used a ton of time, and kicked an answering FG. McVay goes back to the ground game...

Pre-snap:
1569438463312.png

At the pitch things look pretty good once again. Allen's content to let his guy fire off low and take himself out of the play. Boom moving to remove the linebacker:
1569438591344.png

As TG approaches the LOS there's a hole the size of Antarctica behind Boom, all Gurley has to do is cut it back against the grain and honestly I think he's got anywhere from 10 to a TD. But Gurley has missile lock on the sideline even though it's through a bunch of defenders o_O:
1569438657309.png

The outer gap closes quickly:
1569438806082.png

Gurley almost makes it to the sideline. No gain.

11:22 2nd Quarter, Rams on their 25, 2nd and 10. Back to the pass to help move the chains...

Pre-snap:

Pre-snap coverage Browns single high with 8 in the box:
1569439452518.png

Protections once again look good at the drop:
1569439576149.png

Coverage at the drop Goff knows he's got Woods:
1569439669369.png

Protection good at the throw:
1569439708895.png

Goff hangs that thing on a wire for 9 yards:

10:54 2nd Quarter, Rams on their 34, 3rd and 1. McVay gonna mash it here right? Hellllll no lol. Can you say crosser to C-Kupp for more than a handful of yards?

Pre-snap:
1569440003559.png

Coverage pre-snap:
1569440071210.png

Protections at the drop yet again look good, Goff reading left first:

10:14 2nd Quarter, Rams on opposing 44, 1st and 10. More pass here as the Rams try to push into scoring range...

Pre-snap:
1569440463365.png

Protections at the drop show Whit's guy beats him with an inside move. Kupp again running across the formation unmolested:
1569440569223.png

Coverage at the drop we have JRey pulling the DB deep on a go route. Woods center of the field is about to take advantage.
1569440787433.png

Goff sidesteps the rush nicely. At this point he's got Kupp for 5 or so yards underneath, and Woods wide open with a more challenging throw. Also of note 22 here is reading Goff's eyes, and as we have discussed a pump fake or disciplined eyes here would make this a very easy throw for Jared but 22 gets a good underneath drop to make things harder:
1569440906588.png

Goff throws to Woods (a little late IMO) incomplete. Really nice play by 22 there:

Rams working the outside routes. Surprised they didn't work the middle of the field a few times. They used Gurley to protect a lot too. Sure they needed it but, it would be nice to see him in the passing game.
