The Rams kick returner was not getting the job done in ‘19

The Rams have waived return specialist JoJo Natson, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.
This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to fans, especially given his lackluster performance in 2019 and the fact he was set to become a restricted free agent this offseason.
The Rams have waived return specialist JoJo Natson, per source. He finished the season on IR after a December injury and was scheduled to become an RFA. If a team claims him, it could still tender Natson for the 2020 season.
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) March 10, 2020
Natson has handled return responsibilities with the Rams over the last two seasons. In ‘19, he took 19 punts and 13 kickoffs for 149 and 289 yards, respectively, with zero scores.

I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I'm not upset he's gone. He wasn't a good enough returner to justify a spot, since he had no particular value as a backup elsewhere.

Still, a couple of seasons of being a NFL player, and if he's any good as a coach should be able to parlay that into an assistant coach job at a small school at least.

Good luck to Jojo. He'll prob find another job.

I prefer a pure hands guy on returns anyway.

Good luck JoJo. He didn't get much-blocking help last year, but when he had room he eats up yards and didn't fumble. He is very quick. Ram's punt return blocking and coverage teams regressed of late. His two-year average punt return was 9.5 yards. He had 10.8 yards in 2018. Started good last year then got little blocking. Too small for kickoffs and WR. Rams could have done a lot worse on punt returns. I think he fired up the offense on many occasions.

They need to stop the penalties on special teams.

Who's the next punt returner?

I think we all wish him the best.

He's a nice guy. And a decent returner. Just not good enough to justify a roster spot, at least if the Rams had done some decent planning to sign a UDFA or two who were decent options, and had at least some value as a backup at other positions. You know, since he was taking up a game-day roster spot, and was a good but not great returner.

Hard to feel too bad about a guy who has earned over $1.5 million in his career, without actually being worth it - except for the partial season in 2018.

Too slight of build, and I'll never forgive him for coughing up the ball against the Eagles in 2018. He wasn't even touched and it killed the Rams rally against Foles.

Even though Natson didn't fumble much I gotta admit he just scared the bejeebers out of me every time he fielded a punt. He just looked like he was going to cough it up for some reason. Heck I would yell at the TV to fair catch it even if he had ample room to run. Just never trusted the dude for some reason.
I know this sound irrational and all but, of course, being a Rams fan can be somewhat irrational so there's that......

Hope he prospers going forward but I'm probably going to sleep a lot better next year with him gone.

JoJo was not awful, one bad fumble and he had a few nice returns. They will have options with Nsimba Webster, Greg Dortch....Not sure on Darrell Henderson as he was never a punt returner (kick offs only) and I expect Henderson to be a major part of the running game, so I don't expect him being exposed on punt returns.
