Nope - due to his injury/missed time.

Well that does give them a few options with him. I saw that the original round tender in 2022 was 2.627 million. Cheaper than the second round tender. Unless because he was a second round pick they have to use the second round tender. I don't have much knowledge when it comes to that. But at least they can get something in return if he signs elsewhere. Or sign him for another year on a team friendly deal. It all depends on his performance this year.

I feel much better about this group then last year.

  1. Cam Akers...After moving on from last year issue with the RB Coach, this is a contract year and Akers should be ready to produce accordingly combined with a better Offensive Line.
  2. Kyren Williams...Will be the 3rd down back as he is a great receiver out of the backfield and is stellar in pass protection.
  3. Zach Evans...Provides the Rams with a homerun threat and will be ready for addional carries if called upon.
  4. Tiyon Evans...Adds some size to the backfield along with maybe the ability to punch it in from the goal line.
2. Kyren Williams - And he demonstrated these traits when exactly? I don't follow ND football so can't recall seeing him play.

About Akers.

Let’s don’t overthink this. He would have to blow the doors off this season to be extended by Rams.

Anything less and he’s a goner. It’s then not about Akers per se, but rather about the ‘new’ Ram RB philosophy.

They‘re gonna draft a RB every year to keep the pipeline full until they find another Gurley/ Faulk/Jackson type. THAT RB they will extend.

Until then, the big bucks and 2nd contract cap dollars will be spent at other and much harder to fill positions.

The End

Yeah, and in Akers defense, I'm sure it didn't help that the RB coach was younger than him. That was a questionable hire that didn't work out.
Agreed and I imagine that Akers was correct in all that BS last year. And the Rams to their credit made the right call. But even given that whenever there is drama like that hard feelings can linger and shit. So that will likely factor in regarding whether to re-sign him. So given everything it's probably a longshot at best to happen, though if we end up in that situation it probably means Akers has a career year which I pray is how shit goes down.

Because McVay's offense has always put up big points when the run game is there.

I don't love any of them, also not overly concerned about the group ......yet!
It all starts up front, whether it is schemed, executed, or just being overmatched the OL will impact this narrative and facilitate the failure or success of the run game

At Notre Dame and he was a WR converted to a RB plus was rated as one of the top collegiate RB's in pass protection.

If Akers has a good attitude then he should have a good year, however I don't see him on the Rams after this season. Any attitude issues and I think McVay will just get rid of him. This is a prove it year for Akers and a good contract on another team. He'll want a nice contract if he has a good season and I don't see the Rams paying a RB again.

F that shit, If Akers has a career year you franchise him next year and let him walk afterward.

He strikes me as a whiner piss baby and has no dog in him. Wouldn’t be surprised IF Evans and Williams look promising they don’t try and trade Akers for a late round pick by the trade deadline. McVay will tolerate until he doesn’t have to anymore.

I think we have to factor in an issue between last years RB Coach Ra'Shaad Samples & Cam Akers. Samples was very young like 27 and maybe it was not a good fit as McVay pivoted and put Thomas Brown back overseeing the RB's and things did get better.

Rams tried to hire both Tashard Choice (Longhorns) & DeShaun Foster (UCLA) before settling Ron Gould, who IMO, was a great choice because he will be the adult in the room and Gould has a ton of collegiate experience along with being the Head Coach at Cal-Davis too.

Lets see how Akers responds to Gould and handles this year because it could have really been an issue with Samples. Also as much as I liked Thomas Brown, McVay empowered Brown to hire his replacement, in which, Brown hired Samples, which was an epic fail so I don't feel that bad losing Brown as he now has a great chance being OC in Carolina under Frank Reich, which will give him an opportunity to become a HC eventually.

I don't understand why it isn't clear by now that a HUGE part of the problem with Akers last year was things goings on with the coaching staff.
He's here.. the RB coach was run out of town in the middle of the season.
It's math.

Anyway.. if Akers has an excellent season.. you give him the second round tender and wish him well if someone signs him and take the future second round draft pick. Easy peasy.

Hopefully Evans is the guy, but if not, you'll draft again.

BTW... that Tiyon Evans looks like a bowling ball from hell. Really interested to see if he's got anything in him. Some of the scouting report stuff seems like scheme and coaching could help.. .but he better hold onto the ball.

Meh… you’re in charge of yourself and it’s up to you to conduct yourself what you need to do.

Cam Akers is not our solution at RB and our FO knows it. Just like everyone wanting to Pead to work out… it’s not in the cards unless he has a Gurley MVP season, i guarantee he doesn’t have the grit for that. MVP type players are on their own path and it doesn’t matter what a shitty coach does for the most part, they do their own thing and grind themselves.

That give zero pass to Akers and his drama. His days are numbered.

Brown is the most overrated coach of McVay's entire tenure here. All we hear is how great he was but what did he do as RB coach in the years he ran the room. What did he do at TE when he was there one year. He couldn't hold Wes Phillips' jock as a TE coach.

Now he's an OC for Frank down there in Carolina. Gonna be interesting to see how that offense responds to him. Or not.

Gurley was a great talent from day one and was a 10th pick in first round and Akers was a 20th pick in the second round. Without justified injury concerns, Gurley might have been picked REALLY early. For a few short years, he was a great back with few if any, better.

Cam was never that.

The point was that kurtfaulk falsely made was was Gurley did poorly because of a poor coach.

That’s unequivocally false.

As I stated it doesn’t matter where you are drafted, if you have some dog in you it doesn’t matter what is surrounding you, you perform and overcome.

Cam doesn’t have any of that. Crying and sitting out games because you got your feelings hurt? To the folks that use excuses as a daily Routine that might be okay for them, but to those that have grit and get the job done it’s an entirely different story.
