Observations and Analysis

-The Rams sat at 13th on the waiver wire this year, so it is no surprise that they did not come away with any waived players. Last year, St. Louis nabbed four waived players. Last season, however, the Rams were in slot two for waiver claims and, thus, were in a much better position to claim and attain the most appealing prospects.

-After the cutdown to 53, St. Louis is still the youngest team in the league for a second consecutive season (per Mike Sando, ESPN).

-Of the Rams’ current 53 man roster, a full 55 percent of it is comprised of first- or second-year players.

-The new regime of general manager Les Snead and head coach Jeff Fisher is responsible for two drafts to this point. So far, so good in regard to player retention, as eight of 10 drafted players remain from the 2012 class and all seven have stuck from this year’s collection of drafted rookies. In percentage terms, over 88 percent of those selected remain with the organization. That figure is a stellar one and represents a monumental improvement from previous years.

Hi Shane. Nice article-another good job.

One long question. What is your overall opinion of going into the season for the second straight year with a team this young?.......smart?....not so smart?.....neutral? Do you think it slows down the rebuilding process?....

Thank you sir.

Good job as usual Shane.

"In percentage terms, over 88 percent of those selected remain with the organization. That figure is a stellar one and represents a monumental improvement from previous years."

This is also a testament to the lack of talent that Snisher faced upon arrival in St.Louis. I expect this ratio to move towards the norm in the future. That's a testament to the talent we have on the team now.

It's looking good in the Loo!

Appreciate the kind words and sorry for the slow response.

I am happy with the Rams approach because -- although it may or may not potentially slow the short term success -- they are absolutely building it is optimally as they know how for the long-term. In the end, we will all be happy with that approach.

In the long run, that ratio indeed will largely balance out. Exciting to be adding two first yet again next spring. Thanks again for the kind worlds.

I agree.
Long term success is more important.
