Los Angeles Rams officials will meet with both Cal quarterback Jared Goff and North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz ahead of this month's NFL draft, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Rams, who acquired the No. 1 overall selection from the Tennessee Titansin a blockbuster trade Thursday, still are leaning toward using the pick on Goff, the source told Schefter, but want to meet with both QBs and debate the decision before making a choice..

Tennessee sent the top selection, along with its fourth- (No. 113) and sixth-round (No. 177) picks this year, to the Rams in exchange for Los Angeles' first-round pick (No. 15), two second-round selections (Nos. 43 and 45) and a third-round pick (No. 76) in 2016. The Titans will also get the Rams' first- and third-round picks in 2017.

A team source told Schefter earlier this week that one reason the Rams made this deal now is to give the team "two weeks to debate between Goff and Wentz. You can make a convincing case for both. Both are going to be good."

Rams coach Jeff Fisher said Thursday that the team has already done private workouts with both players.

"We were the first ones in," Fisher said. "We're familiar with both of them, in addition to those other prospects on this roster. So the skill sets are different, the personalities are different, the background is different, the competition is different, and that's what makes this such a challenge."

well, I guess this kill's any possibility that the Rams are going with Wentz. If you take Shefter's word as Gold! Which I don't!!
I still think the choice will be "WENTZ!"

Well, whatever happens--whoever they choose--you can be sure that Rams fans will be comparing these two QBs over the next decade and either rejoicing at the team making the right call--or living in horrible regret.

Or...maybe they both become stars.

Hey--if you could have Rodgers or Rothlisberger but only one--that would be okay. :)

I certainly don't take his word as gospel, but he seems to be right quite a bit more than most of the scribes...

Or Roethlisberger and JP Losman

Actually, that year was Eli, Rivers, Roethlisberger and Losman. The next year was Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers. Pretty crazy two years of drafting.

Maybe they really are undecided on the two?

The Rams are continuing to signal publicly that they remain undecided about who will become the franchise quarterback in Los Angeles.

Days after trading up to the first overall pick in next week’s draft, the Rams have scheduled meetings with both Cal quarterback Jared Goff and North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the team iscurrently leaning toward Goff but wants time to consider both quarterbacks. Other reports have indicated that the Rams are leaning toward Wentz.

Some think the Rams knew who they were going to take before they made the trade with the Titans but are just choosing to keep things close to the vest. Even if that’s the case, however, it doesn’t hurt to take a meeting with both quarterbacks and learn a little more about the player they’re not going to take.

With the draft now just 11 days away, the suspense won’t last much longer. We’ll see how long the Rams can manage to keep a lid on the identity of their pick.

Yeah, especially if the QB we don't pick goes to SF.

Personally i'd rather avoid all that and would like to see "the other guy" go to Cleveland or even Philly because IMO both QB's will be successful.

As thew Horns work out the two QBs, Fish pulls Qb coach, Chris Weinke, aside and asks,

"Can you get Carson's footwork to be a little more or even a lot! more like Jerad's? Won't that help his accuracy quite a bit? And can you help him upgrade his release time? If so, we will have a guy who can throw the rock for distance with accuracy and touch and who can ramble like a FB or an "Air" McNair!

I know you're kinda joking, but Wentz' release is damn near picture perfect already lol.

Even if they're 90% sure of who they plan to take, they still have time to make sure; making the trade at the time they did allows them to be "on the clock" more than 15 minutes.

if they're on the clock for 15 minutes the browns would have already made their pick and taken the qb they want.

This is some amazing strategery.

Keeping it really secret makes it super hard for the teams who might want to trade up to do business, especially the 9ers. This might ace them out of a QB, which could be worth several victories over the next few years.

Several teams don't rate the two QBs equally, so the secrecy has to be causing chaos at the top of the draft and that chaos will ripple throughout the draft.

Chaos that doesn't affect the Rams is a definite plus. Add in the extra attention to the Rams and to the draft, the latter of which the league really likes, and it's a huge win.

Problem is, these two may be the best in (this) show, but it remains to be seen whether either one will ultimately pay off....I wish it actually could be between a Rodgers or Ben, but sadly, I doubt it. :baghead:
