IDK but, the IR players cost cap space? Cuts like Kelly have dead cap space. I guess it adds up.

The Rams are over by about $600K which is normal at this point for a lot of teams. They are over because of Howard and Lawler on IR. They still count against the cap. The real hit is with Robinson's $4.4M cap hit. Now here comes the tricky part. If the Rams can show his heart condition was an undisclosed issue when they signed him they can probably get out of his contract if he isn't likely to play this year. The other part is his dead cap of almost $10M. He must play fairly soon or he must be released with an injury settlement of some kind or the contract should be voided for an undisclosed health issue. It's said to be a heart ailment of some sort. That means he's not likely to play now or anytime soon. IMO they probably are hoping that medication will mitigate the problem which is why they are trying to be patient. I think he has hypertension and that can be medically controlled with a variety of usually oral meds. But they need to establish a baseline and he needs to lose weight. Being out of football all this time means he needs to then get into shape. Either way, it's a drawn-out process. Normally in the signing process, there is a medical clause which means the contract is contingent upon passing a med check. Since he never even practiced with the team that might be there out. This is why I've been saying keeping Hoecht was important and why they went out of their way to slip him through waivers.

Voiding the contract IMO is the best way to go. They have a guy on the PS who can play NT. It will clear not only over $4M in cap this year but also $9.5M next year. I think we will see some clarification this week so I'm not particularly concerned.

Hoecht plays with speed and power. No history of injuries and a standout on his team. You won't see SJD with his speed and quickness and the ability to play all over the Dline. Staley covets versatility and he could have another AD in that he has the power and speed to play all along the front just not NT. Sometimes it looks like he's unblocked but many times its simply he's too quick.

Funny because SJD did in fact get snaps all over the Dline. Even better is the Dline coach praising his versatility and ability to play all along the Dline.
Seabass, with the versatility that he has, to play all the way across the front, coming off a quote-unquote rookie year, being that it was his first time playing, you saw him take the step that you look for from a development standpoint," Henderson said. "And that excites me about him in general.

If it was myocarditis from a bout with COVID, it takes some time, but it can be remedied so that he can play. That may be why the wait.

I dunno. As with so much this year, we gonna have to just wait and see...

With the exception of the Gurley and Cooks contract disasters, the dead money is likely the same on all teams. Signing bonus stay with the team even if the player hasnt

Apparently there is a lot of angst among the media types about how are the Rams going to extend players next year like Ramsey, Kupp, Floyd and Ebukam. I illustrated how they could clear cap in another post. Having done that it's really a matter of getting to 2022 and beyond where the cap should return to over $200M if not in 2022 then soon thereafter. So look for teams like the Rams who rarely back-load contracts to do so as a COVID expediency. They can sign guys to cap affordable contracts for 2021, perhaps guarantying the year 100% then escalating thereafter, i.e. using 2021 as a bridge year in the contract. Why would players sign those contracts? Because everyone will be doing it and because it's all about the guaranteed money not the gross amount.

The Rams can afford to do it because of how young they are. Next year will be a huge year in terms of contracts expiring. But as I pointed out there are really only a handful that are priority signings. Snead by all accounts had a huge year in terms of quality of signings both among drafted players but more importantly among the UDFA players. This team is really stacked with talent in terms of youth and quality of players. The idiot media pundits don't see how good this team really is. The Rams could be the next Pats in terms of dynasty they are that deep.

I keep saying this team is built and the proof is in how Snead is bringing in players via FA, draft or UDFA. He's looking a year or two down the road. He knows he stands to lose Ebukam and Johnson so he drafts Burgess and signs Hollins off the wire. Both can play now and both fill potential holes next year. This is how you stay in contention without overpaying. It's why I trust the Rams FO to sign Ramsey, Kupp and Floyd and try to sign Ebukam (a lot will come down to Samson and how much he wants to stay).
