Morning Ram-blings: Offseason guidelines
By Nick Wagoner

http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-rams/post/_/id/7630/morning-ram-blings-offseason-guidelines

The newest Collective Bargaining Agreement the players and owners signed in 2011 greatly reduced the amount of required offseason work for players.

Whereas offseason programs once began up to a month sooner, they now operate on a sliding scale based on if the team in question has a new coach in place. For teams such as the St. Louis Rams that have had a coach in place for multiple years, the wait is longer.

Which is why the Rams are finally scheduled to begin their offseason conditioning program on Monday. Along with the limitations on what's considered mandatory and voluntary, players working out also must fit in under more expansive and detailed rules.

ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates broke down the extensive list of rules teams must follow for their offseason programs.

The Rams are about to embark on what is called "phase one" of the offseason program, which essentially limits them to working out in a group setting under the guidance of the strength and conditioning coaches.

Actual on-field work won't begin until phase two, though even then the work is extremely limited. The time that's considered most important is phase three when teams can conduct organized team activities leading up to a minicamp. The Rams, however, again have no mandatory minicamp scheduled.

The on-field work won't start until after the draft, which will lead to a more condensed period for teams to get their work done.
