Or two. Even if they intend to draft one, there is no reason to leave a hole at a key position going into the draft. I'd sign McCrane (Guardians' kicker) but even if they don't like him start bringing guys in and try to improve the competition level we'll have in camp at the least.

I will be surprised if we don't see something happen soon on that front. Definitely before the draft.

Will be curious to see if McSnead invest a high pick (4th or 5th) on Hot Rod

Seems like a McSnead type move to be aggressive if there’s a kicker in draft they really like

Meh.. there will be plenty of kickers for competition with UFA’s etc. I fully expect that they are going to draft a kicker in the draft somewhat high to secure they get him.

Sam Sloman from Miami of Ohio interests me. Apparently has 60+ yard range and improved throughout his college career, including hitting over 86% of his FGs in his final year and going 4 of 5 from 50+. I'd also reach out to the Bills and see about Kaare Vedvik. He struggled last year, but many people saw him as potentially the next big thing based on his first few preseason games with the Ravens. He has a huge leg.

If we wanted a guy with a huge leg, we just let him go. If they are more concerned about consistency, I'd rather have a guy that can make everything up to 50 yards regularly. This team has no problem moving the ball between the 20s.

I’ve said it from the start , that The Rams should start fresh with special teams.
Mainly because Snisher did it there first season with Brown & Jones.Mcquade was coming off rookie season.

Drafting a kicker is how Snead got The Leg. Bones has liked him better than Demoff. The Rams have also waited to sign him twice.

I’d draft a kicker.
After this last year where it seemed every kicker struggled and missed kicks Im not sinking money into a FA.
If the Rams were gonna do that they should have kept GZ.

Our guy with a big leg was pretty damn consistent in 2017 and 2018. I don't think Zuerlein walking has anything to do with what the Rams want in a kicker. It has more to do with Zuerlein's cost, age, and durability imo. Sometimes, kickers who seem consistent don't prove to be, and kickers who don't seem very consistent prove to be exactly that. It's not an easy position to evaluate.

Roberto Aguayo was automatic inside 40 yards in college (46/46 on FGs in college inside 40 yards and 198/198 on PATs). He sucked in the NFL. Justin Tucker was a good but not great college kicker who is going to be the greatest NFL kicker of all time by the time he retires. The Saints have a stud kicker named Will Lutz. Lutz hit only 63.2% of his FGs in his final year of college. On the Ravens, Vedvik went 12/13 on FGs in the preseason (hitting two kicks from 55+ yards and his only miss being from 53 yards) and 11/11 on PATs. After his trade to the Vikings, he struggled badly.

Kicker is such a weird position; I think it's worth taking a shot on him if the Bills are willing to move him. Sometimes, a guy just needs a change of scenery, the right coaching staff, and some confidence to figure things out. And to make it clear, I'm not saying we should put all our eggs in the Vedvik basket. He would be one of the guys competing for a spot.

And, FWIW, while I have shit on Aguayo a bit, it might be worth giving him a call too.

According to Rich Hammond the opportunity to resign Brockers was what caused the Rams to not resign Zuerlein. Seems maybe we did want him but there just wasn't enough money left for his position. Of course the Cowboys may have something to do with it.

If Hammond is right it makes me somewhat less enthusiastic about having Brockers back at that cost. Not easy to replace GZ. Not having a set, capable kicker seems likely to come back and bite you at the worst possible time(s).

Greg proved only one thing and that is he was a very streaky kicker with the Rams. People remember his 2018 season heroics but they tend to ignore the reality of his career. In his 8 year career he was only above 90% twice and only 100% on his PAT's 4 years. We would expect better and more consistent performance from every other position so why not his? I knew at the end of the season he wouldn't be brought back. A kicker doesn't lose 2 or 3 games in a season and keep his job on any team. Greg is a good PK but not a great PK. Dallas is rolling the dice on him and because of it they look to be over paying. It looks more like they are trying to hurt the Rams more than improve their team.

All the FA kickers out there are unsigned for good reasons. IMO they would be more likely to find a good kicker via the draft than among the discard heap.
