Rams have $4.65M in cap space to sign 2019 draft class, free agents
By: Cameron DaSilva

The Los Angeles Rams entered the 2019 NFL draft with seven total selections, including one in the first round. After moving around the board with six trades – three of which were with the Patriots – the Rams finished with eight picks.

As of now, Los Angeles has just enough money to sign its 2019 draft class. The Rams have $4.65 million in cap space without including the incoming class of rookies, which is the fifth-lowest in the NFL.

According to Over The Cap, their eight draft picks will cost $5.3 million based on the structured contracts at each draft slot. However, the effective cap space needed is just $1.33 million. That means they have enough cap space to sign their rookies, but not much else.

Fortunately, their draft class won’t cost nearly as much as most other teams’ because they didn’t have a first-round pick. For comparison, the Giants’, Cardinals’ and Raiders’ classes will all cost them upwards of $13 million.

If the Rams want to free up additional money, they could restructure Johnny Hekker’s contract to create $1.74 million in cap space. The same goes for Nickell Robey-Coleman, whose restructured contract would save the Rams $2.1 million in 2019.

Last year, the Rams waited until June to sign their 2018 draft class, being the last team to get its rookies under contract. They like to teach their players about financial responsibility before signing them to lucrative contracts, which is smart.

Great post Boni

This is really encouraging, as we have room to sign some vets, if the competition doesn’t work out. Perhaps bringing back one or two of our own FAs

Bye bye Troy Hill?

I think so. They might let him compete in camp, but he's a likely cut IMO because $2M cap hit for CB5 (wherever Long ends up, in the slot or outside, he's better than Hill and will be CB4) is a bit much.

Which is funny because if you look at the 2 picks they got from trading down those 2 combined actually had a higher cap hit than the 1st round pick.

Los Angeles Rams waive OT Darrell Williams

After drafting two new tackles in the 2019 NFL Draft, this should come as no surprise.
By Sosa Kremenjas

Even the dead period in the NFL produces news. The Los Angeles Rams have waived offensive tackle Darrell Williams today, per Rams insider Myles Simmons:

This move should come as no surprise as the Rams invested heavily at offensive tackle in the 2019 NFL Draft by adding third-round pick Bobby Evans from Oklahoma and fifth-round pick David Edwards from Wisconsin. Both schools (notably Wisconsin) have produced strong offensive line talent for years, as evidenced by current starting right tackle for the Rams in Rob Havenstein who was once a second-round pick from the Badgers.

Either way, the move allows a chance for Williams to go compete elsewhere, as the chances of him sticking on the 53-man roster in Los Angeles simply weren’t great.

Williams was a undrafted free agent who joined the Rams in 2015. Williams actually started a game for the Rams in 2017, though that came in week 17 when the starters were benched. Arguably the biggest play of his career to date was coming on for an injured Havenstein in 2017 and immediately allowing a strip-sack effectively ending a large comeback by the Rams against the Philadelphia Eagles.

This move saves the Rams $570k on the cap, per Over The Cap.

Sosa Kremenjas has his Darrell Williams's mixed up. He usually is better than this. Could the Rams resend the offer to Troy Hill too?

If Talib is #1, Peters #2, NRC #3 & more than likely third round selection David Long will be #4.....then Hill is already in the 5th slot with Peterson & Williams running up his posterior!

So if you say that a #4 corner is not worth the $2 million plus a season then Hill shoud have signed that Ram offer tag as soon as he saw it!:sneaky: Me thinks that Troy Hill is no better than a #6 Rams corner of the 10 corners we have signed now. In addition Troy is not listed as a Ram on the updated Ram roster put out today...... http://www.nfl.com/teams/roster?team=LA

I should have named my son "Darryl Williams", then I would at least know he could hang around the NFL as a journeyman OT for a few years.

The report is from Myles Simmons. Are you saying Simmons doesn't have his facts straight ?

Whomever compiled the below stated information about DW "

Arguably the biggest play of his career to date was coming on for an injured Havenstein in 2017 and immediately allowing a strip-sack effectively ending a large comeback by the Rams against the Philadelphia Eagles. is incorrect!

Simmons may have reported the release but he may or have inserted the above wrong information in the article. That must have been done by Sosa. I will have my peeps get up with him & advise him that we here @ ROD expect better.;)

Williams was a undrafted free agent who joined the Rams in 2018. Williams spent the season on the Rams’ practice squad eventually signing a futures/reserves contract in February. Unfortunately for him, this signals the end in L.A. He played in seven games for the San Francisco 49ers in 2017.

This move saves the Rams $570k on the cap, per Over The Cap.

Time will tell but I bet Peterson and Long prove better than Hill in training camp. If so he would likely be gone via trade or cut. I think he knows this and would like a trade now.
