The Sports Book is currently being run as a charity rather than a challenge. It's fine as a bit of fun but you shouldn't normally be able to bet on all possible outcomes and break even or make money. Last week the odds on NFL games were 10/11. This week they're 1/1. If the bookie takes the same amount on both outcomes he doesn't win. Effectively the bookie is the 1 taking the gamble. Since people can choose to only pick games where the bookie's odds are incorrect the bookie is likely to run at a loss. Since this is only for fun it's fine but...meh! In real life the Rams are favoured to beat the Bears, (they're 1½ point favourites - meaning they have to win by 2 points or more for betting purposes). Here they're 1½ point underdogs, (meaning a 1 point win, a tie, or a 1 point defeat is good enough). You also get odds of 1/1 rather than 10/11. It's exceptional betting value and if I were offered those odds in real life i'd take them. There's also a book on the Rams end of season record. It's run at a book of 100.3% for the 7 possible outcomes!

That is correct.....its just good fun.

Did the line move on the Ram game that much or did I mis read something?

The odds I posted this week come from sportsbook.com

There's been a bit of support for the Saints and 49ers, which doesn't surprise me. Normally I stay close to the line even in fun spread pick 'ems such as at ESPN, but I took the Saints -8½ and the 49ers -5½. That was a popular view and the line has followed. I haven't seen any movement in the Giants line which does surprise me. The Giants are at home, on a winning streak, and facing a defense in worse form than the 2011 Rams.

OUCH! I see you've changed the odds and the line on the Rams. lol. I guess all good opportunities come to an end. Congrats to those who took advantage.

I used the sportsbook.com odds to minimize pushes because they had more 1/2 numbers to minimize pushes. The Ram game was the last one I posted, and its possible I got in a hurry and made the mistake. Its not the first time this has happened...my boss once won 5000 dollars on a misprint in a Lakers over/under. He bet everything in his account, then he tried to upload more money. But by the time the cash got transferred, the book discovered the error and corrected it. His bet was honored, but not without some resentment. Wasnt his fault, and of course he talked about his dumb luck for at least a week afterwards.

Since it is "just fun" I have been doing two things....1) leaving the line as they are at the time I post, and not moving it as the week progresses and 2) giving even odds as we do not have a true bookie that needs to cover expenses.

However, I dont see it as a charity. They still have to play the games, and I'm just a volunteer.

I wasn't trying to be overly critical so i'm sorry if it came across that way. If you need some assistance i'm willing to put in some time to help. I just don't want to be committed to doing it long-term. I worked in the gaming industry for nearly 10 years so if you have any gambling related questions feel free to ask.
