For the St. Louis Rams defense, one year makes a big difference. Just one season removed from having one of the worst defenses, particularly against the run, the Rams suddenly have one of the top defenses in the entire NFL.

The Rams are allowing just 18.5 points per game which is fifth best in the NFL and is a big reason why the Rams are 3-3 on the season. The three wins are more than the Rams had in all of 2012.

The Rams also rank seventh in the NFL in yards allowed per game, letting opponents rack up just 311.5 yards per contest.

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher feels good about his team's defensive effort thus far this season, but knows there are challenges ahead.

“I’m pleased with where we are but we have a lot of work to do,” Fisher said. “Clearly over the next two weekends we have significant challenges. Ask me that question again after the next three games.”

Of course those challenge come in the form of Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers this week at the Edward Jones Dome and then followed by Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in London the following week.

Fisher's led defense is certainly more exciting to watch. Chris Long and Robert Quinn have been able to get after the quarterback while corner backs Cortland Finnegan and Janoris Jenkins have done an admirable job locking up the oppositions wide receivers.

The Rams are playing defense in 2012. They are playing mean. They are aggressive. The Rams defense is pretty darn good.
