RAMS ANNOUNCE FOUR 2014 BILL WALSH MINORITY COACHING FELLOWSHIP PARTICIPANTS
ST. LOUIS – Four former NFL players have joined the Rams coaching staff this summer as part of the Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship program.
The Rams’ participants include: former Titans RB John Simon, who currently coaches at Southern Miss; former Titans DT Tony Brown, who is an assistant at Tennessee-Chattanooga; former Colts, Falcons and Jaguars LB Mike Peterson, who is an assistant at his alma mater, Florida; and former Bills, Redskins and Saints S Pierson Prioleau, who coaches at Radford High School in Virginia.
The Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship is an annual program administered by the NFL Management Council and NFL Player Engagement. The program's objective is to use NFL Clubs’ training camps, offseason workout program and minicamps to give talented minority coaches opportunities to observe, participate, gain experience and ultimately gain a full-time NFL coaching position.
Current Rams assistant coaches Joe Bowden (Assistant Linebackers) and Clyde Simmons (Assistant Defensive Line) are among many graduates who went on to secure a full-time coaching position in the NFL. Three current NFL head coaches - Tampa Bay’s Lovie Smith, Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin and Cincinnati’s Marvin Lewis – are also former Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship participants.
The program is named after the legendary 49ers head coach who conceived the idea and helped the NFL put it in place in the late 1980s.
