Groves was selected in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. While participating in the NFL combine in 2008 he was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson White syndrome.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Wolff-Parkinson White is an extra electrical pathway in the heart that can cause a rapid heartbeat. Groves had surgery for it after it was discovered.

“It’s an extra circuit in the heart, and it speeds up your heartbeat, it’s nothing too critical, but you have to take care of it,” Groves said after his diagnosis (via Auburn’s website).

A first-team all-SEC star at Auburn, Groves was taken by the Jags with the 52nd overall selection in the second round of the 2008 draft. Groves played two seasons in Jacksonville before making stops in Oakland, Arizona, Cleveland, Tennessee and Buffalo. He tallied 175 combined tackles, five forced fumbles and 9.5 sacks in seven seasons in the NFL.
