With the dearth of QBs, I still think the Rams should be worried about Lynch falling to 15. I wouldn't bet on him being there.
Would anyone be surprised to see a QB overdrafted? Shock and surprise, right?
As for Cutler, no way it happens this year. If the Bears draft a QB, he sits this year as Cutler's cap hit is too big and they can trade him next year for a pretty small hit while the rook learns OJT and starts next year.
As for the point...
Tennessee: Young Up and Coming Starter
Cleveland: Desperate Need
San Diego: Aging Solid Starter
Dallas: Aging Solid Starter
Jacksonville: Young Up and Coming Starter
Baltimore: Solid Starter
Miami: Young Up and Coming Starter
Tampa Bay: Young Up and Coming Starter
NY Giants: Aging Solid Starter
Chicago: Aging Solid Starter
New Orleans: Aging Solid Starter
Philadelphia: Intermediate Starter
Oakland: Young Up and Coming Starter
Los Angeles: Backup
Looking at this list, Cleveland doesn't have a starting QB on the roster atm. Los Angeles is almost belligerently sticking with Case Keenum at least publicly. That said, any team without an Up and Coming Starter, Solid or Star QB is eligible for drafting a QB.
Notice something???
The teams that could seriously go QB early in the first round (because it's so damned expensive to trade up to get a QB) include Cleveland, San Diego, Dallas, Giants, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia and Los Angeles.
That's EIGHT teams in the top FIFTEEN.
Now, due to not all teams seeing it that way and scarcity, it won't BE that way, but it illustrates that waiting for a project like Lynch to fall to 15... may be more than a fool's errand when he's being compared to Cam Newton. I dunno that I totally agree with that assessment, but it only takes a couple of teams to make the 1st round a 5 QB round and those 2nd round picks pretty meaningless for taking a QB if the Rams didn't do it with that 1st one or decide to trade down in an effort to get value.
Like when the Rams had the 2nd pick, it will be a seller's market. Not as much as when the Rams had it and there was a consensus #2 pick, but there's still no easy answers. I mean, it's entirely possible that BOTH Lynch and Cook are gone BEFORE #15 due to teams trading up to get ahead of the Rams. I can see the Broncos going big for Cook in the early teens if Lynch is gone to the 9ers.
Where does that leave the Rams? I dunno. I really, really don't.
But as for the OP, we can't get Cutler this year. Cap hit is too big, iirc. Expressly because of that, tho, Chicago may want to draft a QB which puts another player in play for a QB at the top of the draft...
Not good for us if the Rams are going for a QB.
Yet another reason why I think Fisher went and got hypnosis to convince himself that Keenum's the real deal...
