Rams Lead League with Six PFWA All-NFL Honorees

The Rams have received more accolades for their 2017 season, as six of the club’s players have been named to the Pro Football Writers of America’s All-NFL team — a mark that leads the league. Each player was also named to the organization’s All-NFC team.
Running back Todd Gurley, left tackle Andrew Whitworth, defensive tackle Aaron Donald, kicker Greg Zuerlein, punter Johnny Hekker, and kick returner Pharoh Cooper are Los Angeles’ 2017 honorees.
Gurley, also a likely MVP candidate, led the NFL with 2,093 yards from scrimmage, 19 total touchdowns, and 13 rushing touchdowns. He finished No. 2 with 1,305 yards rushing as well. This is Gurley’s first All-NFL and All-NFC award honor from the PFWA. He was on the organization’s All-Rookie team in 2015.
Whitworth helped stabilize the Rams’ offensive line in 2017, becoming an integral piece for the club to lead the league in scoring. Also a first-team All-Pro, Whitworth helped reduce the number of sacks quarterback Jared Goff took from 26 in seven games in 2016, to 25 in 15 games in 2017.
This is Donald’s third consecutive selection to the PFWA’s All-NFL team, having earned the honor in both 2015 and 2016. The defensive tackle finished the year tying a career high with 11.0 sacks, and led the league with 91 quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.
Hekker is also making his third consecutive appearance on the list. The punter finished No. 2 with a 44.3-yard net average per punt, with 30 punts downed inside the 20 to only four touchbacks.
Despite playing in only 14 games due to injury, Zuerlein led the league with 158 points scored. And Cooper finished No. 1 among qualifying players with a 27.4-yards kick return average. Only Atlanta’s Andre Roberts (38) and Seattle’s Tyler Lockett (37) returned more kicks than Cooper, who also had a 103-yard touchdown return against Jacksonville. Both Cooper and Zuerlein are first-time honorees.
The PFWA is made up of accredited writers who provide daily coverage of the NFL and its 32 teams.
