Yes, I have read some of you say that using Gurley and Anderson at the same time, would remove a better skill player from the field. A better pass catcher, in other words.

I'm not so sure it's a bad idea.

I heard a podcast tonight that was speaking to this very thing. Having a two back set would be unpredictable, imo. Could you imagine both backs running on screens from an I formation? Who would cover who? Also, could you imagine a CB trying to bring down either RB without getting trucked? Every once in a while, traditional runs could break up the predictability of it.

What plays can you think of that would involve both backs besides this? Weird jet sweeps? Something else?

Yeah. Doesn't have to be fancy. I like the thought of C.J. lead blocking for TG3 as well, with a change up mixed in with the ball going to C.J. Just that could be a handful of plays for the cowboys to have to deal with.

CJ hasn't had a chance to prove it yet, but he's supposed to good at catching the ball.

I wonder if CJ has had any prior experience as a lead blocker? Definitely a good idea to consider near the goal line.

I don't see a prob with doing it here and there, and flex TG out wide. Could even bring him across as a jet sweep threat, that would make DCs crap their panties. :D

Fake toss to TG30, pull 76 run behind 65. See if we can use their speed against them to over pursue a tad. 4 yards turns into chunk players later in the game baby!!!

Wonder if a double screen and throw to CJ as i bet TG gets more attn

I would hope the Rams would start early with some Gurley/Anderson formations. Get Gurley in space, pound Anderson up the middle, throw in some jet sweeps and short passes, confuse the F out of the Dallas defense and get the crowd working in favor of the Rams. If it works continue with it. If it doesn't work - adjust back to a more normalized formation. I would hate to bring any Gurley/Anderson formation into play as act of desperation.

I wouldn't want him blocking me! With his height, it would probably be hard to shake off his block!

McVay doesn't really ever run a 2 back offense. I don't expect that to change now....at the end of the season...in the playoffs.

We may see Gurley get spelled a bit more often, but I don't think we will see much in the way of 2 back sets.

McVay does like to have sets with only 2 players running routes and the others blocking. It gives Goff maximum protection and makes it a very simple 2 option read or throw it away. Both Gurley and Anderson have been excellent in pass protection.

Flexing or just lining TG up wide unloads the box and gives you options. We can use TG almost like Kupp in that regard. It's a numbers game really, and that added digit gives us more maths. We want ALL THE MATHS!

I like the idea of both running screens from the backfield . I also love the idea of TG lining up in the slot and running a few routes on linebackers

Play action to CJ, then a jet sweep to TG? How do u stop that ?

I have a feeling that with McVay, everything is on the table regarding running plays. I also feel that without Anderson we don’t win the SB. The playoffs are EXACTLY when you throw in plays nobody has seen before. Philly Special anyone?

I expect with CJ now on the team, we will see a few more running plays and possibly some 2 back formations at times. I think we are now a better red zone team as well.

21 personnel with Gurley following Anderson through the hole.
Would love to see that.

It's been asked and tossed around here "How to replace Cooper Kupp". Todd Gurley is the perfect fit. He may be even better than what Kupp did. He's just as fast and stronger. He may not be as good a route runner but he's still pretty good at it.

C'mon, does anyone really think McVay hasn't thought of using both Gurley and Anderson? He's licking his chops to put them both on the field at the same time.
2 back set, Gurley in the slot, or lined up outside as WR. Hell, he can even line up Anderson tight on the T as a TE and Gurley in the backfield.

I'm betting the Cow-pies are going to see formations and plays the Rams have never run at anytime this year.

Another consideration is the weather. 80% chance of rain on Saturday evening, making the running game even more important.

I know the idea of CJ blocking for Gurley sounds great and all - getting back to the old fullback formations. But in many cases - especially at the goal line - an additional back can clog the hole as much if not more than it can open a hole. If CJ is really good on taking out the gap guy, that could be effective. I'd rather see them use him as a straight up runner and pass blocker and get Gurley out in space. Trouble is that those LBs for Dallas can really cover some ground. I know many want to see smash mouth football and so do I. But we may see a lot of middle to deep passes to get the ball beyond those guys.

Didnt McVay bring a FB into camp last year? He has got to have some ideas for a 2 back set. Put CJ and TG in the I formation and the linebackers will all bite on the play action, then hit Cooks deep.

It seemed before mid season that McVay started running Brown more in the 2nd QT. Then of course Brown got hurt. So I wouldn't be surprised if we see CJ spell Gurley in the 2nd and maybe 3rd QT's, to have him fresh for the 4th.
