It's going to get to 16 teams at least. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
They are going to choke every penny out of it they can.
Next thing would be a draft lottery.

A draft lottery would be tricky and I don't know if the NBA is even going to keep theirs.

It's too iffy......but I'm with you on the wring out every dollar.......that'll happen.

I doubt it too, but with the salaries slotted it makes sense they would to have one more huge event to get even more exposure. I put noting past them if they can make a buck out of it.

Goodell thinks playoffs will expand next season
Posted by Michael David Smith on May 20, 2014

The 2014 season will probably be the last with only 12 playoff teams, Commissioner Roger Goodell said today.

Goodell said the league’s owners have discussed the issues related to expanding the playoffs to 14 teams, and he said he expects that to happen for the 2015 season. Goodell said the league will spend 2014 continuing to examine any issues related to beefing up the playoffs, and should be good to go for a 14-team playoff beginning in January of 2016.

“I do believe it will be approved for 2015,” he said. “I think we want to see one more year of, Will it impact the regular season in a positive way, from a competitive standpoint? Will it create more excitement, more races toward the end, of who’s going to qualify for the playoffs? And we also want to absorb the additional inventory into the marketplace, from an advertising standpoint.”

Goodell said “the primary reason” the NFL didn’t expand the playoffs this season is that the league wants to put all its focus on making the Thursday night package of games as good as they can be. The league doesn’t want to oversaturate the market with too much football, if such a thing is possible.

“We should proceed with the Thursday night focus that we have this year. We’re adding additional invoice to the marketplace,” Goodell said.

Although NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith has suggested that the players may not be on board with expanding the playoffs, Goodell said it will be good for the players because it will produce more revenue and therefore raise the salary cap.

“I’ve had numerous conversations with DeMaurice,” Goodell said. “I think there’s a lot of benefits to the players. That’s something they’ll have to evaluate, but they’re our partners and I’ve said on many occasions before that we’re going to continue to have dialogue with all of our partners.”

Whatever the continued dialogue may be, it will almost certainly result in an announcement at some point that there will be 14 playoff teams next season.

The Rams set a record for the most injuries for a season, in NFL history that year.
1979 Los Angeles Rams

Coach: Ray Malavasi (9-7-0)

Stadium: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
Training Camp: Fullerton State (Fullerton, California)

LOL! Ray Malavasi, what a kick. Nobody could do an interview like Ray Malavasi. The classic Malavasi came out when KMPC paid him $20k (a lot of money back then) to call in every Monday morning to talk to deejay Robert Morgan about Sunday's Rams game.

The most classic was when Morgan went to commercial before the interview and Malavasi fell asleep, snoring loudly, while still on the phone. You could clearly hear the snoring, so Morgan ran with it:

Morgan: "Ray, your offense started to open up in the 3rd quarter, was that planned?"
Malavasi: "ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ."
Morgan: "It seemed the game plan worked, will you continue to use it next week?"
Malavasi: "ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ."
This went on for over a minute.

Two times, both after losses, Malavasi went into verbal tirades over a question from Morgan, including several profanities not allowed on radio.
One was classic:
Morgan: "Coach, it sounds like your upset."
Malavasi: "You're God..."
Radio Sensors: "BLEEEP!"
Malavasi: "...right I'm upset."
Radio Sensors: "BLEEEP! BLEEP! BLEEP! BLEEP!"

Morgan hangs up on Malavasi.
Morgan: "OK, coach, as always it's been a pleasure having you on. When you clean up your act, we'll have you back on the air."

Another Classing Malavasi:
The Rams were going to play the unbeaten Dallas Cowboys in a regular season game and reporters kept asking Malavasi various derivatives of: "Dallas appears they can't be beat, winning every game by an average of 22 points. How are the Rams going to handle this team?"

On one interview, Malavasi had enough.

Malavasi: "I don't give a damn what they have done, they haven't played us and were going to kick their ass."
And the Rams did.

Last Classic Malavasi:
Jack Youngblood and Malavasi are drinking heavily at a pool hall at 2am (in the off season). Youngblood is feeling guilty about losing Superbowl 14, playing with his broken leg.

Youngblood: "Maybe I shouldn't have played the entire game at 70%. We should have used Reggie Doss."
Malavasi (sharply): "You're my end. Shaddup about it."
