That's a big fall for PFF's #2-ranked player in all of the NFL from two years ago.

A year ago, Robert Quinn was Pro Football Focus' #2 overall player in the NFL based on their grading system beaten out of the top spot by Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt. A year later, he dropped down to #87 in their annual rankings:

A big fall for Quinn who couldn’t replicate his monstrous 2013 season. That would have been some achievement, but Quinn was still able to bring plenty of pressure on his way to the sixth highest pass rushing grade of all 4-3 defensive ends. He wasn’t as consistent as we’ve seen him be but there’s no reason to think he hasn’t got it in him to push back up the list next year.

Best Performance: Week 11, DEN @ SL, +4.6

Key Stat: 49 quarterback disruptions were 32 less than in 2013 but still 13th most of 4-3 defensive ends.

There's no doubt Quinn's production took a step back from a terrific 2013. Part of that was the slow start the Rams' defense, and the team as a whole, got off to in 2014. Quinn was sackless through the first five games of the season, but went on a tear the four games following.

Comparatively, Quinn was the #13 player in the NFL top 100 in 2013 as voted on by the players themselves. They've only released the players ranked 91-100 thus far for the 2014 season, so if he made the cut he'll be in the top 90 to go along with fellow D-lineman Aaron Donald who came in at #92.

It's all about production, and he just didn't produce as much this year. Still a monster but that slow start didn't help.

Gee... he went from being super-human good to just outrageously good.

We should be so lucky with all our players!

Well, teams paid more attention to him than ever before. 2013 they left their LTs on an island with him. Lesson learned.

He got better at getting his hands up at the line; his six pass deflections are a career high, and he did lead the NFL in forced fumbles again.

He really needs to grease his arms, and jersey more.

The ongoing poor performance issues @ Left DE post had big impact on what happened to Robert's Right DE post.
