With many players departing from the roster earlier in the offseason, the Los Angeles Rams had a variety of needs entering the 2020 NFL Draft. One area that the Rams chose to improve on in the draft was their offensive line, which was a big point of contention last year as the team had few veterans to ground their very young line.

With less than 10 picks left in the draft, the Rams decided to use their final pick to bring in another young offensive lineman in Tremayne Ancrhum. Anchrum, who played college ball at Clemson, said he assumed he was headed for undrafted free agency as it was so late in the draft when he got the call from Sean McVay, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“Honestly, we didn’t really know where our future kind of lied,” Anchrum said on a video conference Saturday. “I knew I was going to be a day three kind of guy. Getting to those later rounds, we started getting calls about, ‘Hey, we’d love to have you as a free agent.’ I got a couple of head coaches that called me talking about, ‘Hey, we want you now.’ Me and my father were kind of making arrangements for that. But, then Coach McVay called and said, ‘Hey, are you ready to be a Ram?’ At that moment, we all kind of figured I was going to be a free agent, but with the news, we were all really excited.”
Although Anchrum is another young addition to the offensive line, he should be able to bring in some much-needed talent. He is one of 30 other players on his Clemson squad that will be going pro and cited that the stiff competition on the team as a reason for their success. Anchrum primarily played as a right tackle with the Tigers but also saw some time at right guard towards the end of his collegiate career. Anchrum said he would be willing to move around on the line once he joins the Rams:

I’m comfortable on the right side of the line, mostly, right tackle, right guard,” Anchrum said. “But again, I am open to playing any spot on the line.”
Although it could be on either side of the ball, Anchrum will likely see most of his time as a guard. The Rams have a pair of veteran offensive lineman, Rob Havenstein and Andrew Whitworth, that occupy the right and left tackle spots, respectively. Anchrum’s versatility will be a big advantage of his though as he can fill in at multiple positions if needed.

I was pleasantly surprised by the selection of Tremayne Anchrum (TA) but I should not be. Snead continues to select college OT's or trade for them with the ideal & plan to work them in @ the interior posts. Those examples are Corbett, Edwards, Demby, Noteboom & now Tremayne Anchrum. Not all have been a success i.e. Noteboom & Demby.

TA Being shorter 6-2 & over 315 lbs adds some needed size IMO. TA is a different body type to the current starting RG Edwards 6-6 310lbs. With Noteboom being highly questionable in TC & preseason with that reconstructed knee, Jamil Demby's complete collapse & failure when given his assignments, Austin Blythe highly probable move from OG to center, Bobby Evans now in full control of the all important swing OT (6th OL'er) position & other reserves Brian Allen & Nate Trewyn being mainly centers, there was a need for a new insertion of a OG into the OL interior OL cadre. I see 6-6/320 Chandler Brewer being TA's main competition for the swing OG position.

Can we end the Demby experiment already? Can't believe he's still on this squad.

He's got the championship experience to be excited about. He's expected to move to guard or center but scouts were anticipating seeing him at the senior bowl until he pulled out for injury. There may be something there

Somebody I’d mocked so naturally I love the pick. With his experience I think he could surprise people and really contribute.

I just can't shake the feeling this dude is gonna be our Center down the road. Our need there is great, Blythe is just too limited physically, our OGs are probably set (IMO Corbett & Edwards should win their respective jobs), and Anchrum's stubby build won't hurt us there.

He'll need time to learn the calls and who knows if he can get there. But boy does this dude have the classic build and name for a Center. :D

Really excited to see him develop. I don't think he'll make a dent into the starting lineup unless forced to this season but i definitely see him as a future guard. I still think Noteboom will be our LT and has the skill to do that. So our o-line future is looking better. Just need to have some luck this season with injuries so we don't have to thrust inexperience in there like we did last season.

Why do people continually bang on Noteboom? He barely played and got injured...that's nothing like Demby, who has shown little (none) ability to cut it in the league.
You will not find any post by me that could be construed as "Banging on Noteboom" in discussing his abilities to play LT/RT in the NFL.

My position is that when Joseph Noteboom returns to full health, back up to NFL speed & conditioning he will replace Whitworth as the starting LT in the near future. I expect Noteboom to be a very good starting LT for McVay & Goff.

IMO Noteboom should never be placed in a position to play any OG post for any reason for any length of time.
