Yeah, Noteboom looked really-really good. That is such a HUGE find for us as Whitworth winds down... having found what appears a capable LT of the future.

THATS A BIG DEAL!

. Allen needs to get stronger or he isn’t going to pan out in the NFl. Allen from what i could tell was mostly matched up on 99 Buckner who is a handful.

Thoughts?

Great observation on Allen and I like my Centers a tad more stout, Sully is 6-4 312lbs and Allen is listed at 302, but I concur with your assessment....If Allen is able to get stronger and add some weight, he might hold up better at the point of attack. Rams have Aaron Neary on the PS, who is taller at 6-4, but listed at 299...Allen with a year of experience and an additional 5-8 pounds of muscle under Ted Rath, should be ready come next season.

MOBILE, AL - JANUARY 30: North team's offensive tackle Kyle Murphy #77 with Stanford on January 30, 2016 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. (Photo by Michael Chang/Getty Images)

Below is the PFF draft profile for Stanford’s Kyle Murphy, which incorporates PFF’s college grades and scouting intel from our team of analysts. To see all of PFF’s 2016 scouting reports, click here.

POSITION FIT:
Offensive tackle

STAT TO KNOW:
97.8 pass blocking efficiency in 2014 was sixth-best among Power-5 tackles. Only two games below -1.0 in pass blocking the past two seasons

MEASUREABLES*:
Height: 6-6
Weight: 305
Arm length: 33 ½ inches
Hand size: 9 ¾ inches
Bench: 23
*Didn’t work out at combine or pro day

WHAT HE DOES BEST:
— Keeps his hands high and tight in pass protection. Very technically sound and patient with his punch
— Solid footwork in the run game. Rarely gets himself in a bad position. Showed up on double teams where he left guard Josh Garnett took defensive linemen into the linebacker level
— Requisite size and length to play the tackle position. Uses that length very well in the run game where he’ll lock out his arms to finish blocks

BIGGEST CONCERN:
— Plays with a narrow base and it accentuates some serious strength issues. His pass-blocking efficiency against the bull rush was below the FBS average
— Nothing special athletically. Will overset at times and doesn’t have the change of direction ability to recover it.
— A lot of angle pass sets in Stanford’s offense. Looked awkward when taking vertical sets although switching from right tackle to left his senior year likely didn’t help

PLAYER COMPARISON:
Rob Havenstein, Los Angeles Rams. Athletically they aren’t going to jump off the page at you, but both have the consistency in their technique to give competent play at the tackle position

BOTTOM LINE:
After the top tier of tackles in this class no one has a higher floor than Murphy. He definitely needs to get stronger, but he’ll be a starter in the NFL.

Interesting comparison to Havenstein. Seems like they had an interest in him and jumped at the chance to get him this late in the season.

Noteboom Fills in Admirably for Whitworth at Left Tackle

Seeing any All-Pro player go down during an important Week 17 contest can be scary in the moment.

That’s what happened on Sunday, when left tackle Andrew Whitworth had to exit the game in the second quarter with a knee injury.

But as it is with any injury in football, there’s a next man up. And for the Rams at left tackle, that was rookie offensive lineman Joseph Noteboom.

A third-round pick out of TCU, Noteboom has filled in occasionally for Whitworth throughout the year — and gotten in some time during blowout victories. But this was an important moment for Noteboom, as the Rams were in the middle of trying to clinch a first-round bye.

Nevertheless, Noteboom said after Sunday’s 48-32 victory that he wasn’t nervous to play.

“If any of the four guards tackles get hurt, I have to go in,” Noteboom said. “I didn’t feel nervous or anything, just anxious to get out there because I prepare well. In practice, get those reps — the ones reps. So I feel like I was really prepared. The coaches had me prepared, so I wasn’t nervous at all.”

And it’s true, Noteboom often gets practice reps during the week when L.A. elects to rest veterans Whitworth and center John Sullivan on the offensive line. So Noteboom and fellow rookie, center Brian Allen, have developed a rapport with Goff and the rest of the first-team offensive unit.

Last week, run game coordinator/offensive line coach Aaron Kromer noted how valuable those practice snaps are.

“When they get those reps, then they feel good about playing in the games and that's continued throughout the year,” Kromer said. “It's no different from Austin Blythe last year getting the opportunity to play center and guard in practice a lot and giving him that boost and ready to play this year.”

That came through on Sunday, with head coach Sean McVay noting on Monday how well the rookie played against San Francisco. Noteboom ended up being in for the majority of offensive snaps for L.A.

“I thought he did a great job,” McVay said. “Came in, you could just see, very seamless for him, great athleticism. I thought he protected really well. He had a good understanding of what we're trying to get done in the run game. It was encouraging for both he and Brian to get as many snaps as they did yesterday and perform the way that they did against a really tough defensive front. So, I thought Joe was great.”

If we have found our left tackle of the future in the third round ?

We just pulled off a HUGE coup.

Even coming out Allen was considered to be mostly about technique and brain power and a little weak at the point of attack.

Definitely worth a draft pick to see if you can get him physically up to strength as well.

Ted Rath has a great reputation as a strength and conditioning coach.

Still has a possibility of working out well.

BUCKNER IS PROBABLY THE BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER ON THE WHINERS. Makes sense that Allen struggled. Allen does need to add strength, but overall, I thought he did as well as expected.
True dat.
