I didn't know where to ask this so i started a thread. I often think about random football "stuff" that no one talks about. :icare:

Question: When in a punting formation, does it matter how far back the punter is lined up to receive the snap? Is there a rule specified by yards behind the LOS or is it at the punters discretion how far(or close) he awaits the snap?

Punters usually stand 14 yards back. There is no rule on where exactly you have to stand, but it's far back enough so it doesn't get blocked every time. In a case of being within 5 yards from the goal line, the punter puts his foot just before the back line of the end zone. Just one of those things that's always been.

why wasnt there a flag for excessive celebration after the successful Hail Mary in Detroit last night. If the Green Bay packer actually needed to attempt the extra point, it would have had to be from 47 yards

This is a great idea for a thread.

Can someone explain the rules regarding receivers at the line of scrimmage please? Some have to be on the line while others have to be slightly off it and you'll see some step up or back when another motions. Cheers.

Yeah i knew about the goal line thing, was just wondering about normal circumstances. My football mind is tinkering with new and innovative ways to draw up some special teams trickery.

I thought so, because you could try to line up closer in order to get a deeper punt, but obviously the closer you are the more threat there is of a block etc.
