The awful days of seeing very little talent on the field is finally over.

As I watched the game, I saw actual talent on the field in multiple areas. In years past I'd watch the Rams only being excited about a few guys here and there - and even then they usually disappointing. Now my eye is going everywhere. I don't know who to clue on because the roster is filled with young, talented players. And it's everything I thought it could be. I'm not saying this makes us a great team. It doesn't. It just means we're going to be much more competitive and stand a chance in every game.

THE OFFENSIVE LINE - Bravo, Bravo! We finally had good pass blocking! Almost all QB's seemed to have a pocket to throw from. Finally our pass plays had more time to develop.. That pass to Harkey for the TD was all about the time Hill had to wait for it to develop and he was patient and read it perfectly.

Greg Robinson looked the part at LG and they also played him at LT.. and looked good. One time him and Barnes got mixed up and gave up a sack but it seemed like Barnes screwed up more. Robinson clearly has the size/frame to be a dominating run blocker and it showed on the first run of the game for the Rams.

Aaron Donald also looked the part. Showed his burst and quickness. The Rams were very undersized out there without Brockers and Langford. The Rams have a lot of pass rushers on that line but once Brockers and Langford get out there then the versatility of the line should shine.

Michael Sam was very active. I was surprised to see him at LE as I thought he'd be at RE but he held his own. He made more plays in his time than most 1st rounders will at LE. He's very fast, quick and relentless. I see no reason (besides the obvious) why people doubted him.

Joyner - looked good - made an impact with his solid tackle and throw down of Nick Toon.

Tre Mason - A lot of us wanted Mason and I'm glad we all saw why. He's a natural runner similar to Stacy but with more speed/quickness. And with Cunningham the Rams RB's are really stocked right now. Something I've been begging for since what? 2008?? I've been sick of S. Jackson's slow ass for the longest time and these guys help prove the point.

Stedman Bailey - Why oh why did he have to get suspended?? He's just a really good receiver who plays the position naturally well.

Jared Cook - Deserves mention with the difficult catch deep over the middle. Guys like that can be the difference between 7-9 and 10-6 imo. His speed makes him difficult to cover and once the receivers become much bigger threats - this should open things up for Cook even more.

Shaun Hill - Played very well but so did those around him. The line, the backs, the receivers all made the QB's job so much easier against the Saints.

THE BAD?

LB's / Ray Ray Armstrong did not do much from what I saw. He seemed small and insignificant to be honest. The linebackers played the worst of any group imo. Laurinitus was sorely missed. Even Ogletree did not look that good.. but perhaps it was just the match-up/situation and basic defensive calls?

But it was just the #1 preseason game. Hope the team builds on this and more starters get out there next week against da Packers. The secondary is going to get more tests from here on out I think and some learning curve is to be expected.

Tad unfair to call the man out after he's turned 31 and spent his entire career getting massive amount of carries because he was the only one on the team who could play. There's no doubt in my mind that if he had played for the Patriots or the Colts or Steelers we would be putting him up there with the greatest.

In my opinion your post is a little too positive. I know it was just preseason but our run D was terrible. Really bad. And please don't use JL55 being out as an excuse, as our run D has never really been good over the past several yrs. It showed that we have absolutely NO LB depth. I for one am most worried about that...

ausmurp with bad data:
as our run D has never really been good over the past several yrs.
I believe we finished 9th in run D last year. That's after a really bad start too.

Brockers and Langford were also not in there. And yeah this defense is built to rush the passer. I've been at this long enough to know that we want to see this stuff now, rather than later.

What I got out of it besides 3 hours of bliss was the only guy that got hurt wasn't making the team anyway. The vets that did play knocked the rust off.
The rookies got the jitters out. They saw what a NFL game was about and can prepare more for the next one.
The coaches have more info to help the players improve.

Except for last year where we were second in ypa, But yeah if you ignore last year we've been really poor. 2008 for example we were 28th .

I agree with what you wrote..."having a chance" in every game is only REAL if we play Seattle, SanFran and Ariz on the road and we can hang in there, and even win. I know we can stay with most teams now.I think only Rodgers, Brady and Manning have the ability to make us look bad on defense. Hey, we go against Rogers this weekend. I predict that if Ray Ray plays it will be scary. ;)

I really believe our offense is going to be effective. I am very confident about this. That may mean top 15 or so....but that only will get us to 10 wins if our defense can take a good step up from last year--I am not confident of that.
I still saw the corners off their man in key short yardage 3rd downs....in an exhibition game against a back up ...come on...I won't swear.

I think you're worrying too much. If Brockers gets even more banged up then you should worry. We are pretty good at stopping the run.
