i'm not sure if this was posted last season. it's an interesting listen, nothing really new but still it's nice to get his perspective on coaching kurt.

this guy had so much faith in kurt that he played him with a broken throwing hand over a healthy bulger. then brenda had to ruin it all by calling martz out on radio, the big mouth. but who knew martz would take it so personally against kurt and put him to the sword against the giants in the first game the next season.

The things I hated about Mad Mike was his drafting. He also let the Offensive line go to crap.

The Rams had so much talent on offense that he need to protect Faulk & Warner. The rest is history.

What happened when The Rams locked the doors on him. DV was the Man. Mad Mike got the HC job & a 1st rd pick for DV. The KC offense was The best in The NFL.

Trent Green cost another pick & Mad Mike ruined that as well.

Letting Warner's hand not heal fucked us in the long run. Could you imagine him, S-Jax, Holt, and Bruce. Rams pissed me off at the time with this mess up.

Not gonna beat that dead horse, but that's not exactly how it went down. (so maybe I'll kick it a little)

Martz was fully on the Bulger train and kept putting Warner in position to fail.

Then he crossed one of MANY big red lines which makes him a POS in my book.

He took an obviously concussed Warner and sent him back out in the 2nd half of that Giant game after constantly running empty sets and 7 step drops against the best DL in the league at that time because the only way to justify Bulger to management was if Warner got injured... so he set out to injure him.

Warner was OBVIOUSLY concussed and STILL nearly led the Rams to a comeback victory throwing 3 TDs in the 2nd half.

Then he never played another down for the Rams again, even as Warner recovered and Bulger struggled.

Also, Brenda was right. She did what any strong spouse should do... speak the truth and speak up for her spouse. Had Martz had is way, Warner would never have played so much as a touch football game ever again. Hell, that's what he explicitly tried when he refused to release Warner so that he could go and start for Denver even as Mike Shanahan explicitly wanted to do that. He only released Warner AFTER all of the starting jobs were taken...after the draft...

Martz was a brilliant offensive mind, but a more offensive human being... I don't give a single shit that his soft spoken demeanor belied his extreme petulance.

He's a POS of the first order and I give him no quarter... not because I'm a Warner fan (I am), but because he knowingly put a concussed player back in a game to further injure him AND he then went out of his way to ruin the rest of his career or more accurately went to great lengths including telling other GMs around the league that Warner could no longer grip a football.

These are not the actions of a good person.

McVay is every bit as laser focused on perfection as Martz ever was, but he would NEVER knowingly put a concussed player in a game. NEVER. He would never go out of his way to ruin a player's career.

That's enough kicks for now.

TL;dr Martz is a POS and his current revising of history is lost on those of us who were paying attention. Warner's in the HoF and Martz can't sniff a college job and no amount of rose-colored glasses and lies about how he felt about Warner gonna change that.

Very well put.

Disclaimer that I am one of the top 3 Warner fans in the known universe. I flew to NY and saw that Warner debacle in person with one of my developers (die hard season ticket Giants fan).

Both of us were pissed at how Warner was put in harms way. My buddy was, of course, happier at the outcome of the game than I...

Has there been coach that had success developing as many late round QBs as Martz? Especially considering the short time he was here. Martz new how to develop a QB.

Green (came with Martz from Washington)
Warner
Bulger
Fitzpatrick
Even Jamie Martin had a good career as a backup

All these guys are late rnd picks or undrafted.

I'm not so sure about this... Green was already established, Warner was 27 when he started for the Rams and he also kicked butt in Europe and the Arena league, Bulger WAS developed under Martz, Fitz sucked until he left the Rams, and I'm not gonna even mention the other bum. But hey... give me Faulk, Bruce, Holt, Pace, Hodgins, Az-Hakim, and Ricky Proehl, and I could look good too. Just my two cents.

PS - Warner is a stand up guy, one of the most humble and personable and classy athletes I've ever listened to. Martz... not so much.

Martz was Green's QB coach in Washington. Yes. Martz developed him.

Warner wasn't anything before Martz got his hands on him. Arena league or not, the guy was bagging groceries for a reason.

Bulger was also a pro bowl qb before Martz let the line go to hell.

Fitz and Martin both played as back ups when Martz was coaching them. They also played well.

I still love Warner. Even if he doesn't return the affection to us Rams fans. Lol

IIRC, Martz only had Warner for 2-3 months in preseason before Green got hurt... hardly enough time to develop him. And from what I remember, Martz was constantly berating him in practice. And what was the reason why Warner was bagging groceries and not in the NFL? Because he wasn't good enough until Martz taught him?

As far as Warner, he wasn't a good NFL qb until Martz took over.
