Mel Kiper vs. the Annoited God's gift to the draft (Mayock)

Yea, neither Mayock nor Kiper (nor McShay) are worth listening to if you want some deep draft analysis. They cater to the casual fan.

Of the three, I'll take Mike Mayock's Player Analysis any time. He seems pretty spot-on to me! And I don't consider myself a Casual Fan!

He was an Akili Smith and Aaron Curry honk too.

I get why he does this; he's in the business of selling the draft; but to us, the viewer. His analysis is not to be taken seriously.

I can't watch Kiper for long. He's just too high energy and wears on me. Mayock has given fans an alternative. Both of them are wrong from time to time. But step back a second and take a look at what they do. They evaluate everybody who might get drafted. They are required to give an opinion on every player. Saying, "I don't know much about him" would end their respective gigs, more than likely. And their gigs pay them a fair amount of money, so I'll give them a pass if they go overboard from time to time.

Let's agree, they are network entertainment. They cater to the average fan, not the draftnik type. The draftnik type are trying to be better than Kiper and Mayock. And finally, as someone else put it, they are not the REAL evaluators. That would be the NFL personnel guys. Who never get it wrong, right?

And Tempests, of those guys you cite All but Ricky Stanzi, Mike Williams and Trent Dilfer were taken in the top 5, so there were at least 1 NFL team who rated them pretty high. FWIW, Williams was a #10 pick and Dilfer a #6. With the advent of the internet, NFL Network, Sirrius Radio and computers we carry in our pocket, that we ocaisionally use to make phone calls, there has been an influx of experts who evaluate. They're all wrong at one time or another. It's that type of thing.

You could say the Seahawks thought Aaron Curry was the next coming of Mike Singletary. They took him 4th. The Redskins traded a boat load of picks for RG3. Jake Locker was taken 8th by the Titans in 2011, who turned around and took Mariota 2nd last year. Denver drafted TIM TEBOW in the first round!!! Mark Sanchez went 5th to the Jets. The Chiefs took Jonathan Baldwin in the first. Darius Heyward-Bey went 7th to the Raiders. In 2007, Robert Meacham, Craig Davis and Anthony Gonzalez went 27, 30 and 32 to the Saints, the Chargers and the Colts. Think 3 teams made a poor decision with their first round pick all in the same year?

It's difficult for even the REAL experts to project how players skills will translate to the NFL. Let's not be too hard on the guys who are supposed to spice it up for the average fan.

Draft gurus are such a useless waste of money. And I've never watched one that I liked. They are overly arrogant about who they think should be picked by teams and when they are wrong you have to listen to them smugly tear down the team like they know wtf is best. Like they have any clue what teams need. I have never been able to watch Kiper, just his face looks like he needs punched. I don't like Mayock either but at least he's actually been a professional football player before so I have to give him at least some credibility over Kiper. But I can't stand either.

Thanks to the webernetz we know this. They hit at about 34% in the first round and after that forget it. They have no special contacts among teams and no special skills. If they had even average ability to flesh out what a player would project out to or what a team should do they would be making millions in the NFL. Do you guys really think GM's are taking calls from these two knuckleheads???

This is completely and entirely a media creation. And a waste of time.

These guys remind me a lot of Dr Phil. He's not even a Dr but is on TV with his own show trying to give people advice. It is what it is, entertainment. And often times, it's like Dr Phil's show, a comedy.

Mayock is actually factual and articulate with his analysis. Kiper and Mcshay are ESPN's draft versions of PTI or Steve A buttface and the old dushbag peeps. They make no sense and just talk alot about nothing.
