Can anyone please confirm for me if Marcus Peters is on a 1 or 2 year contract with the Rams! I thought he was on a 1 year contract but I am pretty sure I read somewhere recently that he actually has 2 years left on his contract. Also, Any thoughts on if the Rams will be able to sign him to an extension (I am guessing that will be very difficult due to the Aaron Donald situation as well as some other players coming up for Free Agency in the near future)? I think Marcus Peters is going to be an Awesome addition to the Rams Defense and I would be thrilled to see him be a Ram for a long time BUT I guess there is only so much money to pass around!

Rams picked up his fifth year option back in April, so, his contract runs through 2019.

You would think that at some point winning is more important than money. Peters is already going to be set financially, only so many players get to win a SB ring. And if they are playing for the love of the game, that ring is worth more than playing for a losing team no matter how much money they throw your way.

Maybe, The Rams can become the NFL version of the Golden State Warriors?!

No offense, but reminiscing on your glory days isn't gonna put food in your family's mouth 10 years after you've been unceremoniousally kicked to the curb.

Players should try to get as much money as they can because it's going to be much harder to come by once they've outlived their usefulness.

Couldn't we say that for Suh this year? He took less money to sign with the Rams, if I recall that correctly. If so, hats off to him!

You have to be very irresponsible to not be able to provide for future generations with $5mil. I agree AD and Peters both are worth more as players. But after $5mil-$10mil its gotta be more about winning than $ and if its not then you are not a "we not me" type of player or teammate.

Well, he was cut late so his options were limited. He supposedly took close to the highest offer - but also wanted to have a monster season (supposedly) so he could be more likely to get a huge long-term contract this coming offseason - and what better opportunity for a monster season than playing next to AD?

I and others hope the Rams can get home team discounts. Cooks could have gotten more in the open market. Gurley got his money upfront to stay with the Rams. I don't think Peters gives up much money but, could give up some to stay a Ram. There is something to having a stable environment while in a winning organization over getting every penny you can. I'm sure Peters will be getting well rewarded for his efforts.

Whether it's irresponsible or not, it happens:
A 2009 report from Sports Illustrated found that “78% of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress because of joblessness or divorce” after they’d been retired only two years.

Get it while you can, because while it might be difficult to understand from a fan perspective, super bowl rings and platitudes aren't gonna be worth a damn when the decision makers decide you're not worth it anymore and all of a sudden you don't have an income.

And I'm not saying just go for the highest contract dollar amount, there's more profitability and personal satisfaction in playing for a winning organization and in a comfortable environment. But it's not worth the type of discount you seem to be alluding to, not for a league that cares as little about it's players as the NFL.

I would like to agree with you but 5 mill becomes 2 mill real fast; agent fees and Uncle Sam.

I'm 32 and I could retire for the rest of my life on 1 million. So, 5 becoming 2 still shouldn't be a problem. If they aren't financially responsible it doesn't matter how much money you give them. They'll lose it all.

That being said, I interpreted his original comment to mean that taking a contract that pays 23 million per year for a loser, compared to 17 million per year to go to a super bowl (or very likely) shouldn't break anybody's financial future. That 5 million dollar difference shouldn't stop them from being able to provide for generations of their family. I didn't think he meant that a player should take a 5 million dollar per year contract instead of a 20 million per year contract. I could be wrong though.

But more than likely they will try to sign him to a long-term deal.

Idk, hall of fame, etc. can be stepping stones to a lot of things, notoriety, endorsements, the booth, on and on.
