I expect to see Tavon get a few more traditional carries out of the tailback position - and I'm perfectly fine with that if it happens.

I agree. I think Tavon will see an increased role on the field. Maybe a few catches out of the backfield as well. Get him on a wheel route matched up on a line backer or a safety.

Tavon has tremendous vision when he is carrying the ball. He can carry it inside. I also think he sees things that Gurley doesn't necessarily see. . . maybe couldn't even fit through. With that being the case when he is in the game he is really making guys act in a different manner. He's changing the pace.

Gurley is on pace for 322 attempts and I am not good with that. RB's who have done that mostly suffer a big decline the next year.

They need to find someone to get a few more carries than they have been to take a little of the load off of him. Otherwise history has taught us that there will be a noticeable degree of drop off.

Carry it inside? The attempt I saw last Sunday against the Giants he was thrown down like a 90 lb. weakling. Tend to agree with flv. We want a bigger dog in that fight.

This is a bigger loss than it might appear at first glance but fortunately it sounds like they'll get him back.

Rams don't have any other physical, north/south types on the roster. Davis' ball security concerns me but yeah they'll probably start with him and see how he does.

Timing is crappy with the defenses comin up on the sched too.

That’s only 20 per game. Doesn’t seem high at all to me. Got anything to back up that decline statement?

How about we give this guy a shot, he's one of our 2017 6'th round picks and the only draft pick from this class left off the final 53, ... he runs, he hits & he catches. He's a load who is low to the ground and considered about as good a locker room guy as you can get. If nothing else, we have a better idea on his value to the team in 2018. The only thing I recall being said about him when he went to the practice squad was that he needed more time in the gym for strength training. I don't know about his vision at the NFL level, but he'll bring some pain. :

It's sort of an unwritten rule, like 2500 touches or reaching 30 years old.

The punishment takes it's toll quickly, Here is a link. There is a chart that shows 300+ carry backs and how they did the next year. Teams are reducing the load because that number of carries, especially if the runner is a physical type of back, catches up fast.

The chart didn't paste in well but you can click the link and check it out. Gurley isn't a highly physical runner but he is moderately so. I'd like to see him get more rest so to speak.

Bad news....

And who wants to "see" if Davis can block pass rushers at this time in the season? Can't believe some of you are serious with this....dude is a rookie...not known for his blocking...and he fumbles.

I'm hoping Dunbar if fully healthy. It appears that this was a genius pickup...

But there are a bunch of RB's on the wavier wire....

I wonder is Benny still on the Bears?

Nice chart. They didn't show the year after carries which could be why the yards were less. They also are career years for Peterson and others. Other factors are involved too. I do agree that you don't want to overload your running back.

It is a shame they could not keep Cunningham...not sure that was their choice as I am sure he wanted to go somewhere where he had a shot to get more work.

However, that is one guy that had he stayed, makes them a better team. And its not like he would have cost them more than what they paid for Dunbar, but again he likely wanted to go somewhere and have a shot at being the guy which could not happen here.

I don't think it's bad news at all. Davis has some good vision, the fumbles and pass blocking can be negated by him getting practice time and some good coaching. I think he's up to the challenge if given the chance. I assume they'll give it to dunbar because that's the reason he was brought here but who knows how much practice time both have gotten thus far. Maybe Davis is more up to speed on everything at this point? Who knows.

A bunch of RBs on the wavier wire? Whatcha talkin about Willis???

Questions come to mind:
Is Tavon going to be the #2 running back ? For how long?
How many more carries does he get above his 3.875 APG?
Can Dunbar or Davis step in as a #2 RB?
Will the Rams look for another player? Who?

I can see Tavon getting a few more carries to give TG a break. I don't see him as anything more than a game or two answer.

I don't think Dunbar is a third down back nor a solid backup. He was brought in to be more of a pass catcher.

Davis should get some chances to see what he has. I'm not confident in his pass blocking.

They should look for someone that has more size and experience.

Less than Dunbar. 1.5m to 855K.

This could be the only wrong/bad move Snead and McVay made all year. I was not happy to see Benny C leave. He has not done much with the Bears. Total of 7 carriers and 6 catches.

Good points, and I'd like to see the Rams go get someone that can just help kill the clock when the game is in hand. I don't want to see Gurley on the field with a two score lead taking hits. It makes no sense for the long term and this team is being assembled for the long term. I agree someone with some size and experience who can just fill in. There isn't anyone on the roster with the ability to do what Brown was doing. He was also a decent pass catcher.

The Rams lost a great depth player. They need to get to work replacing him.
