That first pass he threw down field was more impressive then anything Goff did that game. He handle a couple of very poor snaps one of which did lead to that pick 6

Now relax, this is not a knock on the California Kid as I look forward to Goff showcasing major growth in year two under the tutelage of McVay, LaFleur and Olson. I also feel very strongly about the depth at this position and I know some of you feel it’s sacrilegious to carry three QB’s, but I’m old school and like having three QB’s on the roster, if they are worthy.

Sean Mannion is not the villain we can root for Mannion and hope that he plays as much as Paul Justin did in 1999, but I am anxious to see how Mannion takes to McVay’s offense because it’s about getting rid of the ball quickly something that Mannion has struggled with from time to time. Mannion at 6’6 is the tallest QB on the roster and there is no questioning his arm strength, the key for Sean besides not holding the ball too long and being very careful not turning the ball over as he did that at nauseam in his Senior year at Oregon State. If the triumvirate of the three offensive coaches annotated above can make an impact on Mannion as well, the Rams could use him as a major trade trip moving forward.

I always did like Aaron Murray at Georgia and was actually pleased with his addition to the field generals here in Southern California. Now I understand he had his hiccups in Kansas City, but Murray was known for his ability to lead at Georgia and always seemed to rise to the occasion when the chips were down. Murray is much shorter than Goff & Mannion at 6’1 on a good day, but he has the ability to escape the pocket and a quick release as well so this offense could be tailored made for him, however, he has been in similar offenses in Kansas City & Philadelphia. So this could be it for Murray although I never believe that about Quarterbacks, but Murray truly needs to showcase he is worthy of a roster spot because with two young guns in Goff & Mannion combined with their youth, it might be difficult to keep three, but this regime will have an affinity for that position.
If his major league pitching wind up of a release is not fixed,I am not sure he sticks.

I realize that, but I miss the days when teams carried 3, but quite frankly that was more in the later 70's with expanded rosters, in the 60's and early 70's Rams usually carried two...Gabriel & Karl Sweetan or Gabriel & Jerry Rhome for example and of course John Hadl and Jame Harris in 73 until they drafted Ron Jaworski in 74, which they traded Hadl to Green Bay and two again until they drafted Pat Haden in 1976.
For the sake of the game,I think a third QB should not count against the 53.

I think i'd rather see teams expand to 55 roster players with everybody eligible, no more of this 46 game day players business. It's not like the league can't afford it, ... and it should help reduce injuries by keeping players fresher. jmo.

I have never seen the point in keeping seven players inactive. Whatever the original reason was, I do not see how it applies today.

I agree! I have never understood why a Team can't suit-up its entire Roster for a game!
Unless the league feels. One Team with a Practice squad with more 'O' Players, or more 'D' Players would give one team an unfair advantage over another. IDK.

Scared....
Mannion looked scared too...with less talent. Which I called clueless...
Just keep in mind, as I have said, a lot of good QB's looked "Clueless" early in their careers! Favre w/ Atlanta, Aikman w/ Dallas, Steve Young w/ Tampa Bay, just to name a few! I'll give Mannion and Goff a pass up-to this point in there careers! (y) But not any longer!!:snicker::shades:

Quite a few indeed...

I'll always remember Tampa QB's....Doug Williams...and Steve Young...I used to like John McKay so I always wanted to see how the Bucs were doing...and Doug looked clueless...but I knew Doug & Steve had talent. This is such a strange game.

I've already forgotten what transpired with the offense last year...but I'll continue to state what I saw...on first look...out of both of our young QBs...

I only remember the hype surrounding Mannion...Should he play...yada yada....and when he got in, he looked clueless. I hope we give that running QB a real shot. The dude outta SMU.

He had an outstanding year when he had Brandon Cooks to throw to. After the Aints drafted Cooks though it was armageddon for him with poor wideouts, poor protection, etc. Mannion is a guy who can play QB if everything is perfect, strong arm and can muscle it anywhere. But he was drafted where he was for a reason.

I think he's a very good backup and will certainly beat out Murray. Murray is a camp arm. Only way that changes is if they both play well in preseason and the Rams flip Mannion to another team for a pick. Which is possible IF Murray plays well enough and they decide they want the mobility in the scheme that he brings in comparison to Mannion.

I love some MANnion and think he has great potential. Neither him or Goff looked good last year because the scheme was absolute shit!

I look to see both develop this year!

Lol Goff played in 7 games Mannion went in for 6 plays at the end of another Goff stinker so yeah he probably was clueless as to why they was putting him in but less talent that's debatable

If everything is perfect......oh well, we're set!
I still like a scrambler for a backup...be ready for mayhem...and make something happen...hopefully good. LOLOLOL

Mannion went to Oregon State. AKA The Beavers.

In a perfect world, the Rams would have an open competition for the starting QB position. Especially with a new coaching staff. But, alas, we don't live in a perfect world.

Are we going to be blind to Goff's struggles behind center?

Are we going to forget that Mannion was 2nd on the depth chart in week one...and only after the sports media got all over that Goff SUDDENLY jumped to 2nd on the depth chart the 2nd week?

I'm just keeping it real because I've really seen nothing from Goff to say he was worth what Fishet gave up to get him.

I've not seen enough of Goff or Mannion to say who's better...but then, isnt that what camp is about?

Goff will be getting 90% of first team snaps in OTA's & camp this season, not Keenum, ... pretty sure that will make a big, BIG difference.

Oh....
This again
I get that some are concerned about Goff, its deserved. But trying to prop up Mannion as if he's ever done anything in the NFL, just boggles my mind.
The Rams over drafted him in 15, no big deal. After Winston and Mariota, all the QB were trash.

Surely you jest??? Mannion a reach in the 3rd round??? I don't agree...and he's far from "trash". The real overdraft was CLEARLY Goff.

There's no "propping up" of Mannion as you say...he needs to prop himself up and he'll get the opportunity. There are 3 QBs on the roster and Keenum is gone...obviously someone thinks Mannion can play. Count me among them.

Why Fisher never gave the kid a shot is beyond me...but what little we saw of him in preseason last year showed ability...and more than Goff up to that point.

Let's don't act as if Mannion had to ride the pine, because of the heat on Fisher due to what he gave up to get Goff...the real reach.

Both guys have ability...and I'm willing to let it play out. I'm for the best player...but at least Mannion gets a shot now.
