Hopkins has been ok in a couple games his entire career. Draft status = talent? Oh then Tutu is great right? :D We need people who can play TE. Higs is fine sometimes but is inconsistent and we haven't had much of anything behind him ever.
What does Tutu have to do with a TE conversation. Higbee has never looked this bad this far into the season. It's a concern.

That's an oversimplification. Higbee has looked distracted and disinterested out there all season. Higbee has talent. So does Hopkins, who was drafted in round 4 and is obviously talented. He made a difference for us this past postseason and hasn't done a thing thus far.

We all know the room could use more talent.

Brycen Hopkins has been given all of 27 snaps this season, Tutu Atwell has received 23, ... I blame the coaching more than the players, at least for now.

As far as talent, is Blanton really that much better than Roger Carter ?

Which is my point re: the coaching.

McVay moved Brown from RB to the TEs this year. I presume it had to do with positioning Brown for OC type roles by letting him learn the pass game nuances. But in the wake of him moving to TE we have a couple interesting indicators...

1. Akers drama. Would that shit have happened if Brown was running the room? Maybe not.
2. TE struggles. Higs has more drops already this year than he's ever had and the season's only half done, plus he's missing blocks and looks straight disinterested out there.

Now we hear McVay is putting Brown back over the RB coach. There is a clear trend worthy of discussion for sure.

Thomas Brown will now oversee running backs

Trying to mend things with Cam?

Higbee was doing good up until after the break. The missed a goid draft to grab a TE. I was happy they went Oline, but Brussels wasn't able to grab the starting RG away from Shelton. Did Les miss on another Olineman? I hope not. The recent misses are hurting the team build.

Higbee has always been average, and a little hot and cold. He was 4/61 vs Cards, 10/71 vs Cowboys, and 7/46 vs Niners. He followed that up with two bad games 1/7 Panther, 2/15 49ers.

Three of his usual production and two well below average. Is he injured? Was he just focused on by the opposing defense in the last two games?

Players like Hopkins and Blanton are experienced tight ends and should not need coaching at this point in their careers. They will never be good blockers and that is why they never play. Time to draft someone.

I can attest to this having him on my fantasy team a few seasons ago. Single-handedly won me most of my games late that season as he also led all TEs.

Occam’s Razor is really taking a beating these days.
Haha, that's for sure, In this equation, necessity may draw a line from - new coaches - new Oline due to injury - RB performance due to?

Interesting in that we know we have 2 new coaches that can affect the RB's - OC & position coach
We have an injured O.L that can and likely would affect the RB position
We have the affected RB's response

1st 7 games:

Higbee 2021

catches-yards

5 - 68
1 - 8
5 - 40
4 - 36
2 - 14
5 - 36
5 - 46
----------------
27 - 248

Higbee 2022

catches-yards

5 - 39
7 - 71
4 - 61
10 - 73
7 - 46
1 - 7
2 - 15
-----------------
36 - 312

last 2 games weren't great but didn't he have a recent injury?

Cooper has been showing up despite the offensive ineptitude but Higbee's their 2nd best O player.

I know he missed a block vs Bosa but hey that's Bosa vs anybody. Did he drop a lot vs SF? 1 or 2? I turn off whiner games when they get out of hand and have been doing that a lot the past 3 years.

Put me on the list for wanting another TE (or 2!) because the backups aren't cutting it.

I agree with Den, who is available who could advise how we might improve our running game? I mean perhaps in an advisory position to the HC because there appears to be a blind spot beyond the OL problems

While we are asking questions, what’s the deal with our new, very young, RB coach? Does he need more time?

What’s the deal with our expensive, former head coach, already advisor to the head coach? Is he on holiday as I haven’t heard dick about him since we hired him!

I will give Carberry a pass but perhaps others here will disagree

I simply brought up Tutu since you decided to tell me because Hopkins was drafted in the 4th round he was obviously talented. The same Hopkins who was inactive last week. The same Hopkins who when I wondered why he wasn't active and used to block and help the run game either you or somebody else told me he couldn't block for shit. Doesn't sound like a talented guy.

Higbee can be good but we rarely see him do good for more than a game or two. In fact last week was a bad game for him. I didn't realize it was such a controversial though that we needed to upgrade the TE position. Especially when the only above average TE we have is a free agent after next year when he also turns 30. It's time to add some talent in the TE room and help out the offense.

Once again Oldschool is WRONG. Hopkins got 10 snaps in.IMO The Rams should have probably left Hopkins in because Higbee got a stinger & was holding his shoulder/neck area.

Sean Mcvay had a perfect play call against the 8ers that should have come close to 6 (house call). Once he missed the catch the game was basically over & Tyler threw his helmet down & sulked.Sucked, but Mcvay should have known better.

When it comes to players.Harris & Blanton both got cut out of the gate to start the season. I know TE is a problem area & lacks depth.

Ben Sko has been a ok outlet/

What makes you say that? Pete’s offense had no identity for years. Someone is coaching Geno Smith. I never saw Pete as a QB guru. He’s a defensive coach.
Russ Wilson looked great every year and now not so much. Won games with a broken down Hasselbeck, Charlie Whitehurst, Tavaris Jackson & Seneca Wallace. He’s proven time and time again he can make do with backup qb

Higbee is a serviceable TE and currently “on pace” to set career highs in rec and yards. The blatant disregard for a #2 TE, an inline TE has always boggled my mind. Higbee could have been more of an offensive weapon thru his career IMO had they had that 2nd guy.

He had two years of 7-9 those years.

It all changed when Wilson was drafted in 2012.

Pete is far from sn offensive guru. He kept trying to hire the right OC to catch his offense up to the Rams. He finally hired a former Rams coach to get it done.

It's a reasonable correlation to say that a guy's draft status is an indicator of their talent level. Hopkins has raw talent. Not sure where his head is at but that falls into the coaching range to get the most from said talent.

And don't be so sensitive. It's not controversial to say we need to upgrade the TE position. I agree with that. But that horse has been beat to death and this conversation is about recent coaching moves. All of which are appropriate conversations for here and now and what is going on with the team.

Basically saying the team needs better TEs does not absolve Brown of his coaching duties. There's a lot of football left however so we'll see how well Higs plays, maybe this is early season seesawing as per usual and I am making more of this than should be made. But it's not some ridiculous conversation to question whether McVay's golden boy is as good as he has always talked him up to be.

The Rams drafted Everett after Higbee. They could have also draft Kittles.
Blanton getting cut was a surprise.Ben Sko playing HB just shows the neglect of replacing Gerald Everett. John Mund’t got hurt & never reply as well.

If I have a knock on Coen I know he's a pass first coordinator. Regardless of McVay calling the plays, I believe he's better paired with a run first coordinator type. Next year I could see Coen going back to the collegiate ranks and the Rams having Jay Gruden as their OC, in which, McVay might give Gruden more opportunity for play calling perhaps and Gruden is more of a run first OC.
I grew up around the Gruden family and Jay in particular. Just like his brother, he is a self-glorifying fraud. His personality changes based on who he is around. There are hundreds of better coaches in the college ranks.

Since Jay gave McVay his first job, McVay is just returning the favor by allowing him to hold a minor position.

I agree and most likely Jay Gruden just moves on and takes over as an OC that actually calls plays for a new Head Coach or gets hired by somebody who had to make a change at OC. Not sure, but I've never been a Jay Gruden fan and hopefully, he just moves on.
