Thinking the wise FA signing this coming year for the Rams would be a CB. Somebody not too old to still produce and be an invaluable mentor. I think that guy is Kenny Moore. Of course, I’m a little bias because he is from where I live and went to my alma mater, Valdosta State.

Is he a fit in our D? Do you think he could be the guy?

How much will he demand on a contract as a UFA? He’s making $7.5M now.

Usually see him in the slot, going off memory here at least. Personally I would rather pay for someone who can give us speed outside the hash.

I believe you are correct that he's a slot guy. And I agree. If we're throwing big money at a CB, L'Jarius Sneed is the best guy FA available (if KC doesn't franchise him).

Yeah seems like Sneed's a guy who draws top threats at a high clip too. I'd be happy with his addition.

Or Jaylon Johnson, but I have serious doubts about him even making it to FA

How much would those guys cost? I'm thinking Moore will be looking for 9 to 10 million. I can't gauge the market anymore with these guys. How much do we want to throw at that position? It has to be a high priority but is it tops?

Valdosta State?
Sounds like an all girls school in the Ukraine! (Blue font)
Seriously, where is that school and is he the only player to go pro from there?

Injuries are the big concern I have with him.

I'd probably look to address CB in the Draft and use big FA money elsewhere. (I might add a good #2 type CB if one is available for a reasonable price.)

Sneed is a complete CB, playing outside now, was slot before. Doubt Chiefs would ever let him go.

Seems like they could get both Edge and CB. I mean if the right ones are available. Then kill it in th draft and SB here we come. Easy peasy

It's a DII school. They have won the Natty 4 times and been to 6.

Here that is.

Valdosta State Coaching Tree

I was looking at the D2 rankings and Valdosta State is #2. It got me thinking about that school and all of the coaches that have been there. If you're not familiar, this might blow your mind.
Notable coaches in alphabetical order (bold for P5)...
  • Bill Bedenbaugh: co-OC at Oklahoma under Riley
  • Doug Belk: DC at Houston
  • Kerwin Bell: HC at Western Kentucky
  • Mike Cavan: (retired) former HC at SMU
  • David Dean: HC at West Georgia
  • Chris Hatcher: HC at Samford
  • Dana Holgorsen: HC at Houston
  • Mike Leach: HC at Mississippi State (invented Air Raid with Mumme and others)
  • Hal Mumme: former HC at Kentucky (invented Air Raid with Leach and others)
  • Will Muschamp: former HC at Florida and South Carolina; current co-DC at Georgia
  • Kirby Smart: defending National Champion and HC at Georgia

I agree Husker, If we could get a starting DB/ preferably CB or even edge in FA we really obtain some draft flexibility.

I wouldn't hate a vet with a couple good years left to add mentorship and production either say Gilmore. He is still productive can play 1 on 1 and is physical enough for the bigger receivers.
I know at 33 it would be a 1 or 2 year mentorship program and yes father time is against him but at the right price he could be a good addition.

I think it’s a must at CB just for the experience at least, should draft one early if the they like is there. About the same for Edge but that’s more of a depth and get ready for 99 departing probably relatively soon.

A stud corner would do wonders at least if you use this season as the base to evaluate from and would likely bring the biggest impact. I agree that edge also is a huge need but with KT & By coming on along with the way we use EJ who to me had an incredible season we aren't as bad as I feared. The supporting cast has gotten some timely pressure too but we aren't consistent enough there.
