I had no idea that he was the starting center for the Vikings when they lost to the Saints in the 2009 NFC Title Game. That seems like it was forever ago. I wonder if this game means a little more to him.

Whatever lingering Viking-related remorse he might have had was probably vindicated last January 14.

Well he's going to have to be on is 'A' game... which should be easier with Rankins out. He was getting man handled a few games, but he's seemed to regain his composure.

He just can't give up leverage at all.
He isn't a huge guy, by interior line standard.
If someone gets under neath his pads he just gets walked in the backfield.

Having a strong game plan where you will primarily run the ball this late in the season, when every player that has started is tired, bruised & fighting injury......will make even old wore down OL'ers get a serious good second wind, it just usually works better. Seems to me I have seen a bunch of Defensive Linemen falling to injury as of late.

An offense that is forced to play & go to a heavy dose of Pass Blocking puts these OL'er in an easier position to fail or be called for holding.....Not the way you want to play this time of the year when you lose you go home. I will be hoping that Wade shuts down the Saints running game completely & force Brees to have to pass....:sneaky:

Are we sure that was really John Sullivan playing center in that Ram Uni last Saturday? :bow:to Sully who gave us his best against the Cowboys DL!I hate to admit this :oops:but I had already written JS off as our 2019 starting center after observing his 2018 performance about the time of the Eagle loss.

We were having discussions here about Brian Allen, Austin Blythe, Aaron Neary & JJ Dielman as our 2019 centers. But as we know wk #16 McVay/Kromer regrouped with a better Ram game plan even with an "in the repair maintenance shop" Gurley. Since wk #16 JS is in the very center of the offense that has averaged 39 pts since:shocked:.

Precisely. This is what was happening against the Eagles (Cox) and Bears (rotation of guys). Obviously, as I mentioned, Rankins will not be posing a threat to Sully. But at any cost, Sully will have to duplicate what he did against Dallas. The zone run scheme seems to really benefit the entire unit up front, and Sully has again, regained form.

Well as we know Sullivan makes excellent calls at the line which is huge for the offense. That mostly comes with experience and knowing defenses. Hopefully his successor can get more game experience to pick at least some of that up before we let Sully go. So maybe Blythe gets the call as first replacement.

If the Rams did loose our starting center Sullivan after this season. ...I believe Blythe would be the leading prospect to replace him. Blythe started 51 games in college, 41 starts were @ center. Blythe has 41 NFL gms of experience & started @ center for Sullivan in 2017 too. Blythe 6-3 298 lbs will have started 20 gms. this season after being forced to replace the 6-4 340 lbs Jamon Brown @ RG. Blythe is a very small starting RG in the NFL. Is there a smaller one?

We have no idea what the future has for three of our starting OL'ers (Whitworth/ Sullivan / Saffold) when this season concludes. It would be great to keep this trio still in a Ram uni in 2019 but highly unlikely. The loss of all 3 would be traumatic & destructive to this offensive unit mostly Goff.

I would believe that the Rams Org. would come up with an extended 2019 revised plan for geezers Whitworth & Sullivan including elements from the 2018 plan where the Rams rested them throughout the week until the last Friday practice. Next step might be where the youngsters take series in the offense in the 2nd & 4th quarters to keep AW & JS even more rested. Making great efforts to keep them healthy enough to continue to start week after week in dealing with their advanced age. Sullivan's knowledge is premium for a center as we know.

OL'ers Noteboom & Allen have yet to start an NFL game but Noteboom came close but both should be ready for fulltime starting assignments after being fully involved in 20 weeks of a long NFL season thus far. Both of them have been primed to play the two most critical post in the OL (LT/OC).

I think playing in the road will have a big affect on the game. The niners and cowboys were at home and the o-line was able to get in a rhythm, the offense has bogged down at times when they’re on the road. They can’t get the play in, they’re spending too much time at the line, they’re wasting timeouts. The crowd can see they’re causing problems and they get even louder. Hopefully being able to run the ball will get the offense working more efficiently.

Nice post boni. I'm stoked about Noteboom. Blythe at C might just be a plus. So many years of OL futility, it's nice to finally have a good one with depth, so much so we let a decent OG go further his career in NY.

^That. McVay, Gurley, Goff, AD are all young so we have a great core for the foreseeable future. Add to that an understanding of the value of OL and it's a great time to be a Rams fan. And back in L.A. A lot to feel great about.

You have been so wrong for a long time. I’ll admit I was wrong about Williams, but The Rams cut Demby as well & only went with like 7 Lineman (8) ?

You really think Whitworth is done ?? I know you have written off Saffold for years due to injury bug. Then Noteboom isn’t the backup LT ??
All good Bonified just busting your chops !! It’s nice to see The Rams Offensive Line dominate.
Higbee has stepped up his game of late & has been an excellent blocker since Kromer. Woods (Kupp) as we’ll block real well for WR’s.
Cooks was drafted by the Saints & traded away after putting up over 1,000!yards. I would think he wants to win as well. Then even beat NE in the SuperBowl?
I do wonder about the backup Center though ? If it is Allen then I’m not sure The Eams Have there best 5 in up front ?

Coincidently we have Allen and Noteboom behind our two most experienced linemen. They are going to learn well I think while getting technique and strength increased.

Love the development we’ve set up!

I think it came down to in those few weeks, Gurley was hurting and Brown was out. McVay did not want to over use Gurley and did not trust John Kelly or Justin Davis. So we went a little pass happy and did so against 2 teams that had a great pass rush in Chicago and Philly.

So some bad timing there, but then of course Anderson fell into our laps and it allowed McVay to re-balance the offense.

Sullivan can function well like that with a balance of run and pass, but he can't pass block every play against guys Cox and Hicks.
