I remember in his introductory media conference that he wanted to retired in St Louis. Not sure if that means he has no aspirations to be a HC or if he likes HC Fisher and the reign he has been given over the defense.

You might be right, I think you are about his relationship with Fisher.

Maybe after Fisher retires after winning a couple of SB's he hands the reigns over to Williams! (y)

It's fun having a defense so good, that you don't get bummed out when the 0 fence comes off the field.

I think they'll go as the secondary goes. But the secondary has no excuse not to perform better with the scheme and amount of pressure they're going to get from the guys up front.

If we can truly stop teams from running, and believe me we will get a big test Week 1, this defense will be remembered for a long time. I just can't wait to see these guys in action on third and long.

0 fence? Boy I hope it's not that bad, I don't think it will be. Here's a prediction, if we score as many PPG as last year, we go to the playoffs.

All the offense needs to do is come out swinging get up by a score or two then just sit back and watch the defense pin there ears back and completely destroy the other teams offense. Then pound the Rock over and over again with Stacy and Mason.

If you are not pumped up over the potential of this D, don't even waste your time with Viagra. It will most obviously not work for you!!!:shades:

Gonna be a good year. I really think we have a better-than-good chance of breaking the all-time sacks record. Possibly by a significant margin.

Who's more excited, y'think - Williams to work with this group of talent, or the players to work for Williams?

I'm sure Williams is school girl giddy about the talent he has here in the Lou, but I can almost guarantee you that the players are uber grateful to know they went from a D- performance D-coordinator in Walton to one of the best in the game in Gregg Williams. The players, hands down.

There were a lot of those days thru the Fearsome-Foursome era and the Jack Youngblood - Jack Reynolds - Fred Dryer days!!:D

So excited to see what this D can produce this year.. Do we even have to blitz though? I mean with our front four, i imagine we could put enough pressure on the QB without an extra rusher...
He doesn't have to necessarily blitz a lot, but be a legitimate threat to do so. More than anything they're going to show different looks to keep offenses guessing. They want to be unpredictable, and I think that really can help out the secondary more so than it puts them at risk with the right guy making the calls.

Just what I was thinking RJ. To see our defense at it's brightest, it would be nice to see us playing with a lead. The sooner we score some points, the sooner you see the pressure build up. There's no doubt we have the potential (Tavon, Cook, Britt, Quick, Stacy, Bailey, Givens, ect.) we just have to have the patience to watch it blossom. Thank goodness we have real gardeners in the greenhouse now.

i'm very excited about this defense too. the only thing that really concerns me at this point is the excessive and foolish penalties these guys have a habit of committing, especially the secondary. if they don't get that under control, it could be an achilles heel. if they do get it under control, the sky's the limit.

I agree.

The secondary is the difference between good and elite.

At CB... If healthy, I think we bounce back. Jenkins and Johnson are legit. The next tier are good enough, IMO... If these guys (J&J) can carry the starting load outside.

At S... We need some fortune to break our way, but the cupboard isn't exactly bare.

:(I went to fan appreciiation day when Janoris, Greg the Leg, Hekker, the are people too guy, and others were there in their rookie years. Janoris stood out bigtime compared with what we had then. Not to mention the other guys. Steven Jackson certainly made his presence in the house felt too. We need some more of that. Not his last years production, but that presence. Just being honest. I don't know the stats and film like you guys, but I've seen what works and what doesn't over the years. Surely it amounts to something.

This D is so potent that even the SEC defensive player of the year may not have a spot. True talent is rearing its head very soon.

I actually have more faith in our top SS then our top CB.. If Rodney can step his game up at FS I'd be more than impressed with our safety's
