Man, that hurts. That just fucking hurts. And I really feel for Everett, because the dude had talent and if you had put that additional talent around him ... damn, what could have been.

I always knew thought that Robinson didn't have override authority, and it was obvious he would have never picked a guy like Gaston Green. That Rams team with Michael Irvin and Thurman Thomas could have been great well into the 90's. In fact, that Dickerson trade could have set the Rams up the same way the Herschel Walker trade set up the Cowboys, but Whoregia and John Shaw fucked it all up. A pox on both their houses, and so glad neither of those two scumbags is involved with the Rams franchise anymore.

Yep.

The front office in the 80's and most of the 90's was just a fucking joke. Was almost as if any success they did have was accidental.

If they weren't pulling draft stunts like this, they were letting talent go b/c they were cheap or they were signing over-the-hill FAs for more then they were worth. What a fucking joke...

I liked Jim Everett then; and I like him now. Frontiere, Shaw and Zygmunt were beyond awful.

However, Irvin was selected 11th overall in 1988. The Rams' first pick (Gaston Green) was at #14 overall.

Unless the Rams traded-down (I don't believe that was the case), they COULD NOT have taken Michael Irvin ... he was off-the-board.

That calls into question the accuracy of the story.

By-the-way, there were five Backs taken after Green and before Thurman Thomas.

Go read the tweet thread - the Rams had a trade worked out with the Giants.

Actually, I'll give you a little help here:

Exactly what I was going to ask. Maybe they were planning on jumping ahead of the Cowboys? Idk.

Anybody who wasn’t 8 in 1988 could you verify any of this? Lol

Perhaps a better ‘88 draft could have wiped out that ‘89 NFCC game drubbing vs the 49ers that essentially spearheaded the dark decade of the 90’s and the move out East.

Maybe.

A bit off topic: As much as I despise SF, I like it when the Rams and Niners are both good at the same time…but in reality it’s mostly not been the case. One team is up…and the other is down, then it flip flops.

Only twice have they met in the NFCC. High drama. It’s like a war movie. I want more.

Actually saw a story/interview where Robinson said well we saw Gaston Green play (locally) and were satisfied with the selection. Which now revealed may have been coachspeak after not getting who he wanted.

That seems a little far fetched to package the #20 as well to go up 4 spots but then again the trade value chart wasn’t yet invented by Jimmy Johnson in 89 officially yet.

Thurman Thomas and Michael Irvin to take on the bitch Whiners for a decade plus? Yes please!

I'll say it until the day I die, but successful organizations begin with the owner, trickle to a competent front office and the finally the coach. Doesn't matter the sport, it starts at the top. Back then, the Rams had incompetence at every level and the only thing that ever changed was the coach.

I didn't follow college too much, still don't. So I never knew Gaston Green was a bad pick and that Thurman would have a better career. But these guys knew, and it's sad that the damn suits ran the team and the coaches who knew more were being repressed. Fuck Shaw and the Witch.

It just confirms my thoughts that it was John POS Shaw who Fucked Up all those Dickerson picks.
I did not know who he was before the trade but I made it a point to find out who he was.
Not easy back then, had to but 3 newspapers a day just to find things out.
F John Shaw who was in the mix when they moved the team.
