James Laurinaitis, Davin Joseph return to practice
By Nick Wagoner

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- The St. Louis Rams returned to practice Thursday, taking the workout outside into the chilly St. Louis weather. But they made it through the exercise and got a couple of players who rested Wednesday back on the field.

Linebacker James Laurinaitis (foot) and guard Davin Joseph (coach's decision) were back in the mix after resting Wednesday. They were both full participants in the workout. Tight end Jared Cook (back) also got back on the field, though his work was limited.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher said defensive end Chris Long is still progressing toward a return but they'll have to wait and see for any hope for this weekend. If the Rams did decide to activate Long (or when they do), they'll have to make a corresponding roster move.

Here's the full Thursday injury report:

Did not participate: WR Damian Williams (hamstring), CB Lamarcus Joyner (groin), TE Cory Harkey (quad), CB Marcus Roberson (ankle), LB Will Herring (foot) and DT Alex Carrington (knee).

Limited participation: TE Jared Cook (back)

Full participation: LB James Laurinaitis (foot), OG Davin Joseph (coach's decision) and LB Daren Bates (groin).

Chris Long making progress

Defensive end Chris Long worked once again in an 11-on-11 setting at Thursday's Rams practice. But coach Jeff Fisher wasn't ready to say when Long might return.

"He's getting better each day," Fisher said. "We'll just wait and see how he is (Friday). If that's the case (and Long is ready), then obviously we have to make a roster move, so we'll see how he is."

Long remains on the injured reserve/designated for return list after suffering a foot injury that required surgery in the season opener against Minnesota. He is in the second week of his three-week practice window, so the Rams don't necessarily have to make a decision on him this week.

The Rams got two players back on the practice field Thursday from their 10-man injury list. MLB James Laurinaitis (foot) and RG Davin Joseph (not injury related) were full participation Thursday after not practicing Wednesday.

TE Jared Cook (back) was limited after not practicing Wednesday. LB Daren Bates (groin) was full participation again and expects to play at San Diego.

Six Rams did not practice Thursday for the second day in a row: DT Alex Carrington (knee), WR Damian Williams (hamstring), CB Lamarcus Joyner (groin), TE Cory Harkey (quad), CB Marcus Roberson (ankle), and LB Will Herring (foot).

For San Diego, DT Ryan Carrethers (elbow), who started at nose tackle last week, didn't practice for the second consecutive day. Ditto for starting C Rich Ohmberger (back/ankle). But OLB Dwight Freeney (not injury related) returned and was full participation Thursday after sitting out on Wednesday. S Jahleel Addae (concussion) was limited Thursday after being full participation on Wednesday.
