It's fair to call Goff elite now

To be fair his last few showings have been well below elite. I think its best to crown someone elite when you take them beyond the playoffs and win the Lombardi.

We have not beat a top defense the last two yesrs. MIN, PHI, ATL, and now CHI. Hammering the teams we should beat or with sub par defenses doesnt make a QB elite. He's got a ton of talent but gets rattled under pressure. Elite QBs find a way to make ENOUGH plays on nights like this to win the game, especially when our defense shows up like they did. He didn't look good from the get go and folded IMO.

It's also funny how a thread that's was created during a hot win streak is brought up by someone essentially mocking the topic and those who agree with it, MOMENTS after a bad game.

BTW this thread was created two MONTHS after the season started and Jared was lighting it up, and right after sweeping the shitbirds. Not after one good game.

But where's our quick pass game and dedication to the run game to help negate that pressure? I was trying to do schoolwork tonight (full time college at night sucks, BTW) so maybe I missed it, but I'm most games where there's lots of pressure on his face, I don't see the kind of play calling typically used to show down the pass rush. We just keep calling deep/intermediate pass plays and hope the O Line can hold up. It usually does and Goff makes them pay that way, but sometimes it doesn't. Like tonight.

Part of it definitely is on McVay. We throw from play action under center more than anyone. So Jared has to take his eyes off the D and then whip around, locate pressure, navigate the pocket, and then throw on time and accurately. How do you do that with constant pressure in your face? We dont run out of shotgun EVER, so when we lineup shotgun they know we will pass. Running early down offense from under center helps us decive the defense but its impossible to do consistently against a rush like that. Our entire O is predicated on our 1st and 2nd down offense under center, but physicality will be our kryptonite.

That's cool... I'm not saying he isn't goign to be elite either. I think Corbin's point was that a lot of people were signing off on him as elite after the Chiefs game.

Honestly he has had two bad games in a row. But the final story for this season has yet to be written.

Hopefully he can bounce back strong.

But even when he did have time there was seemingly nobody open, otherwise he would have thrown the ball to them instead of getting pressured and sacked.

This is s simply another game that shows Goff has to grow more before he can be deemed "elite".

It doesn't detract from his excellence already though. I think the first thing to pick up on was his body language the entire game. He wasn't "in the moment" as I saw it. He was reluctant to leave the pocket which is understandable but when situations dictate, he needs to be willing.

On the safety, I could see he needed to roll left...but he dropped straight back and had no escape.

He's the leader in the huddle...and his attitude is felt by the other 10. When I looked at Goff before the game started I knew it would be a tough game. He didn't seem up to the challenge.

There's plenty to be learned...I hope he learned a lot last night. I'm in his corner...and waiting for the next challenge...THE EAGLES!

I believe we will see the same type of pressure next Sunday too. The well seasoned OL back back in September, October & early November appears now to be trending toward serious decline. Showing weariness & fatigue in recent performances. This is very similar to last season. The left side trio of over 30 (Sullivan/ Saffold/ Whitworth) were struggling all night long. We saw indications of this even after the bye in the Lion's game too.

Guess we are very lucky that the OL came out with only minor injuries with Saffold & Sullivan. If I could, I would suggest to Kromer he may want to rethink his OL operations in order to get younger fresher healthy OL'ers Noteboom & Allen some serious heavy duty action in the next 3 remaining games. Giving Sullivan & Whitworth some time to rest those aged battle worn bodies.

This game tells me more about growing more from the HC than the QB.

The left side trio of over 30 (Sullivan/ Saffold/ Whitworth) were struggling all night long.

OL like to run block because it's easier, pass blocking is harder. Especially on 7 step drops. When people say the playcaller is putting it all on the QB, it's actually also on the OL. Those guys get tired when they have to pass block play after play on deep drops.

What does anything we post accomplish?

Good or bad game we evaluate players and coaches performances.Goff's play against the Bears is part of the topic weather you agree that he is or is not an elite QB.

Don't know and don't care about labels.

But he's had two rough Outings on the road in a row.

Last night I lay at the feet of McVay, who wouldn't disagree.

Must remember how young McVay, Goff and a lot of this team is.

Far too early to assign labels or make sweeping generalizations.

Onto next week... let's give this some time and see how things unfold.
