Is this really a college offense?

I was watching some show and they were discussing Baker Mayfield, and Joel Klatt the college football guy says the Browns need to make it easy for him by running a college style offense the way the Rams have done with Goff. And that is definitely what they are running. I thought that was an interesting thing to just throw out there like that without any explanation. The #1 offense in the league is a college offense?
Not that it matters a lot what you call it, I’m just curious if this is really how McVay is perceived.

Sounds like another shot taken at Goff. Less of a statement about McVays offense than it is about our “bust” of a quarterback.

Like Goff needs to have things kept simple in order to run the offense? The results sort of disprove that.

You say Klatt is a college guy? Kinda explains it ...his comentary has been simplified for him more than our offense has been simplified for Goff.

Its all jibberish.
The spread is the offense and there are many elements of it in the NFL
The whole "pro style" offense theory is a dinosaur.
The high school offense is now the spread which has kids more prepared for college, which is why you see more freshman and sophomore studs.
And in the NFL, rookies are participating more than ever

Offenses are offenses and defenses are defenses.
There are elements of different Os in McVays offense, just like all others.
A draw is a draw, off tackle is off tackle, a crossing route is a crossing route etc.
you can run screen passes 100 different ways.
The difference, in my opinion, between college and pro is the level of complexity. Meaning how and how much things are disguised.
The motion, the reads are huge as well. Also, the level of specific game plans to attack a different opponent each week is a big difference.
They may mean having coach in the QB ear making some reads for him.
If they mean limiting the playbook in a big way because Mayfield can't handle it, he shouldn't be starting.

Rams Offense is 100 times more complex than college. QB's coming out of college are the most ill prepared of all the position groups, OL and TE's are right behind them.

Some QB's coming out of college take more than a few years to learn it all. NFL playbooks are too complicated or they just can't process information fast enough, the nfl game being so much faster.

College Head Coaches have simplified their offenses to they can get their young high school freshmen on the field. In order to do that they have to keep it simple. Other reason being kids coming to the team on football scholarships are not some of the brightess kids.

NFL teams may be running spread type plays, but they are still more complicated and much faster than college.

McVay cut his teeth in the NFL. I doubt his style has anything to do with the college style.

Line play and protections are much different.

College spread teams produce a G Rob who learned 6 plays and never (almost) took a 3 point stance.

Splits are wider in college where they can get away with it; linemen are too fast in the NFL.

QB reads are different and more complex.

Play action is more of a factor in the Pro game.

Now, I'm sure that McVay has studied the College Spread and has taken the things that have worked and dropped what did not work.

Not dismissing the idea because a great big chunk of college teams are running the Spread because its easy to teach, recruit and execute.

If you don't throw it all over the lot in a Spread, HS kids will play basketball, which is counter-intuitive because there are fewer spots for the 6'3/6'4" kid beyond HS basketball. In college, the 6'3" kid has to be a ball handler not a post player.

I'm going with the theory that it was a shot at Goff.
Talking heads that didn't think he was worthy of the first pick rejoiced with how bad he looked as a rookie even though we knew it was because of Fisher and Boras.
Now they're trying to figure out why Goff looks so good by trying to make out like it's a, "college offense".

Anything you can do to keep the defense off balance is a good thing.

Yeah, it'll be fascinating this year to see how it's defended. Remember, the read-option was killing people but NFL defenses caught up.

College offense ? No what Jared ran in college was a college offense lol

This offense the rams run would be way too intricate for college players , the qb is taking snaps under center and in shot gun .

The receivers are running multiple double moves and very difficult routes. They also rub alot and cause issues for the defense , not many college wr can do that effectively.

Just another shot at Jared , Mayfield reminds me of Manziel and hes gonnahave a hard time with timing throws. He likes to run around and wait for guys to break open down field, good luck with that in the NFL.

Lol Goff may come from an Air Raid offense but the Bear Raid playbook he played back in Cal requires making pro-style reads. Curious to see Mayfield's transition from the Stoops spread to a Hue Jackson offense
