Imagine....Joe Noteboom does really well this year, but for some reason the Rams back ups aren't working and Boom gets injured for the 2022 Playoffs. The Oline is still working out with Big Whit and they notice he has that fire in his eyes.

"Sure, I can play for four games" Whit replied..... "Put me in coach, I'm ready to play....."

In that super bowl video he told his daughter "this is Daddy's last football game. I promise." He seems like the type that won't lie to his kids like that. I think he's done for real.

"I know I said that honey, but I meant in 2021...Last game, last season....Now don't cry or we aren't going to go to Disneyland again...." ~ Big Whit explains, hoping she buys it.....

His kids would want him to play 3 or 4 more games. Its not like he is going away for a whole season.

I also believe we will see more guys like Weddle coming out of their "recent retirement " to help their teams in the playoffs. It worked beautifully for the Rams.

No I don't think Big Whit comes out of retirement. He's a big guy, staying in football shape is going to be harder for him then Weddle. And the trenches are brutal

Whitworth does not strike me as the type to un-retire. I could be wrong though. If he sticks around football - and I suspect he will make his way back to it sooner rather than later - it feels like it will be in a non-playing capacity. Coaching. TV analysis. Scouting. Etc.

Exactly
What Weddle did was amazing, but its no comparison to lining up at OT

I would love to see him become our offensive line coach within the next few years. I think if we were in the playoffs and something unfortunate happened to our offensive line....... I think if McVay called him for help, he would. Hopefully our offensive line stays nice and healthy this year, so we don't have to find out. Thanks for EVERYTHING Big Whit!!

As a couple others above said I don't see there being any chance he'd come out and play. He had a very good interview on Rich Eisen recently. He's staying in great shape but right now he is focused on losing mass. He wants to get into really good golf shape. He's a really amazing Dude.

If you remember our old center John Sullivan. After he retired he got into losing mass as well and I think really into cycling. I remember seeing a photo or interview with him just a year after retiring and I was just blown away. No way would you have thought he played on the Oline.

Big guys don't age the same as small guys. Whit has been pretty remarkable for a long time. Give him a year off and his body is not going to be anywhere near ready.

And even at that, Weddle took a beating (on the shoulder). Granted, he truly left it all on the field - but he was a safety and not grinding it out in the trenches....

I imagine Whit is going to shed a lot of weight in retirement. No reason to him to stay at 315+.

That's a good point. I imagine though that he is available given that he's new to retirement and one of McVay's best friends.

Yeah, taking that weight off the joints is key. I bet he will be down to 230s - 250s in a few years

I hope the Rams told Whit to stay in shape just in case the Rams are headed to Super bowl 57. Maybe Weddle too.

Whitworth is done. As A.J. noted, in his interview from Rich Eisen Whit. talked about slimming down and losing weight. He is remaking his body to be slimmer for a post-football life. Whit. is a naturally big man but a lot of offensive linemen use a diet and workout regime to gain even more bulk and strength for playing in the trenches. I have observed that a lot of retired offensive linemen usually look a lot smaller relative to how they were when they played. My mind also flirted recently with the idea the OP postulated but with his age, loss of bulk, and playing strength I think it would preclude Whitworth from making a Wettle like return.
