I think the Rams had a pretty good off season even if they did not sign any big name free agents.

Agree with the OP, but I think McSnead blew it by not signing Matt Gay and Greg Gaines. They could have easily signed those guys while pushing some money into the next few years. I do not believe they would have cost a lot and the Rams needed both of those guys this year. They paid a punter 6 mil a year.. why not Gay? And Greg Gaines seemed like a tough, high-motor, stand-up guy who got results. Again, back to the original post, I like "most" of what the team accomplished this year.
Yes Gaines and Scott would make a big difference this year for not much money, Gay got a bit pricey but if we miss a few too many field goals in our fist ten games...we'll all be raising hell about his decision.

That would have been a stupid move for a team on the rebuild.

Glad we didn't! 2 First's and a second? Fuck to the no!
I agree but if that trade happened, I don't believe the Rams would have adopted the current 2023 strategy.

My guess is that Ramsey would have been extended for cap relief; and the Rams would be kicking-the-can down-the-road a little longer.

I agree, that was the tell tale sign to me we were going this route back in January and been calling it since. With that deal with Burns you're right we would of been a totally different direction.

I'm so happy that it didn't go through because this next draft is going to be crazy as hell with a ton of talent in all areas that we need! Shit QB's that are usually in 1st round somewhere will be able to be had in the 2nd or 3rd more than likely. Of all drafts, we need a ton of picks in this draft.

Burns will be a free agent after this season, ... if we still want him, pay him next year.
Nah, players like that don’t get away for free. They’ll tag him for sure, then maybe they’ll trade him.

Morris here simply because Raheem and McVay are buddies. McVay seems to forget he's got a higher duty to the team.

I seriously doubt that's all that goes into McVay's DC decision. Being buddies is likely still a big plus (trust, communication, etc.).

Really? There's a lot there I haven't seen backed up by player quotes. Or Jourdan. Or the Rams. Or even outside NFL reporters. We offered Miller the same money as Buffalo? We offered Miller a 6 year, 120 mil contract? I believe that's BS! Ramsey wanted out? Definitely BS. Wagner went back to Seattle because of Morris? I read it was the Rams asking for a pay cut and the fact they were cleaning house. Gaines didn't return and won't return as long as Morris is DC? So his leaving was his decision and he turned down a Rams offer? First time I've heard that. Where did you get all this "new" inside information?

We did. He took the 6 year 126M from Buffalo as it had more guarantees, but to say we didn’t offer that just isn’t true. The board was full of posts criticizing Von for listening too much to his dad and going for the bag instead of giving the dynasty a chance. He also didn’t leave for a no income tax state so it’s not like he saved money

I'm sure Morris is the only buddy McVay has in all of coaching. That has to be it. Or maybe we could go with the compromising pictures theory. No wait. Morris is secretly McVay's bastard step child. Morris is secretly a bazillionaire and is actually bank rolling the team? Shit! He's Stan's child from that night in Barbados.

So I’m asking because my recollection ain’t so good. But have there been any Rams that McVay traded, didn’t resign or released that went on to significantly produce in the NFL? The only one I can think of is Goff - who could be put into that category with a playoff run this year.

First, I loved their draft, which could lead to nine players getting significant playing time. Next, I really like the trade for OLman Kevin Dotson; liked the under the radar pickups of FAs Duker Shelly and Brett Maher; and finally, UDFAs Mike McAllister, DeAndre Square, Ryan Smenda, and Quindell Johnson. Also don't let me forget John Johnson.
yeah i used to think kind of like you but i finally realized that every team has improved also if they haven't whoever is in charge of the pick should be replaced. after all it doesn't matter if your team has 5 picks or 14 picks they should pick players that improve their team it is just a matter of did your team improve more than most of the other teams. same for free agent and trades.

So success of lack there of basically it comes down to:

Improvement
Health
Matchups (schedule/opponents improvement and health)

It's difficult to project improvement with losses like Ramsey, Floyd, Wagner, etc.

But I have a couple of questions.

Wouldn't we be without Ramsey if we kept him anyway? I guess the answer depends on was his knee ready to be injured or was it the surroundings?
Will Wagner be as good at 33 as he was at 32? Scheme certainly will have something to do with it. In 10 years with the Hawks, he averaged 90 solo tackles and just under 3 sacks a season. With Morris it was 81 solo tackles and 6 sacks, the latter a career high.
Floyd was a very good edge. Previous to playing on a defense with AD he averaged 27 solo tackles and 4.6 sacks per year, while with the Rams it was 33 solo tackles and 9.6 sacks. Did Floyd make the Rams better or did the Rams make Floyd better?

Our defense has so many "unknowns" but that doesn't mean they'll all be negatives when it's all said and done.
