I think Snead/McVay have at least a 2-pronged offseason O plan...

The first bombshell was obvious when they traded away Goff for Stafford. We’ve all talked that one half to death. But if we ask ourselves why they made such a drastic move it always comes back to probably McVay became convinced that an upgrade from Goff was necessary IF McVay wanted to be able to unleash his full O arsenal and maximize his creativity. That’s an oversimplification but I do think it’s generally accurate.

Which brings us to the other fundamental offseason O renovation. One not quite so obvious. Namely, the new OL blocking style that McVay has concluded is necessary to maximize Stafford’s effectiveness. IOW, bringing in Stafford was only half the job in retooling this formerly great Ram O.

Think about it. A highly respected OL coach was politely shown the door rather late after season end. Very unusual. What to conclude but that there was a failure to be on the same page philosophically with McVay’s vision for the ‘21 season? I think it’s likely that new blocking schemes are in store and I suspect that new faces will be seen as starters on OL this year. The new OL will be different and it will fit more hand in glove with both Stafford and with McVay’s goals on O.

So there we have it, a Snead/McVay double barreled offseason strategy to turbocharge this Ram O. Either one, alone, would not be sufficient to achieve Ram goals in this SB window. But in combination? Could well become a lethal upgrade needed for this current rather mediocre O.

Thoughts?

I think it's clear about Stafford vs Goff, as far as McVay's desire.
Not so much with the OL and Kromer.
Was it "philosophical differences"?
Was it changing from zone to man? (I read somewhere Kromer coached man before joining the Rams)
Was it performance?
McVay wanted somebody with more experience coaching zone?
Was it a desire for new personnel vs a desire to keep the guys we have?
I don't know if anybody can say with certainty, McVay wants a new blocking scheme (or style).
Was it McVay does in fact want to change the scheme but keep the players and Kromer told him "you're nuts"?
Like you said, very unusual. So that could be anything.

I don't think anyone wants to say no to McVay right about now on that side of the ball.

It is hard to imagine a new OL coach... and him just rolling with the same starters from before.

Looking forward to seeing Carberry work his magic.
If you watched his introduction presser when Sean was 1st hired as HC when Sean talked about all the great coaches he’s worked with on his path to becoming a HC he named Kevin Carberry was one of them.

McVay doesn’t play that card often. If Carberry is “one of the great coaches, he’s worked with”... that is quite the compliment.

McVay would have worked with a LOT of OL coaches along the way to HC.

Rams Org. has a large amount of college & NFL OT's signed under contract in comparison to interior OL'ers for OL coach Carberry's review & assessments.

Snead is a man of his word. He has said many times that he prefers drafting college OT's over OG's being introduced & groomed into his team working OL operations.

College OT's
LT Andrew Whitworth 39/15
RT Rob Havenstein 28/6
Swing OG Austin Corbett 25/4
OT Joseph Noteboom 25/4
LG Jamil Demby 24/3
OG David Edwards 23/3
Swing OT/OG Bobby Evans 23/3
Swing OT/OG Tremayne Anchrum 22/2

Colllege Interior OL'ers
OC/LG/RG Brian Allen 26/4
RG/LT/RT Chandler Brewer 24/2

Summary: McVay might desire a change to a much stronger pass protection scheme in this upcoming seasons with the major change @ QB.

I thought that bringing in Stafford eliminated the need for an O line? :sneaky:

Not clear if Kromer's departure was a disagreement over personnel or scheme, or both. Imo however the offense as a whole needs to be revamped and the coaching change suggests strongly that the oline at least will be part of that.

A disagreement over personnel or scheme? A distinction without a difference, FarNorth.

McVay seems determined to improve his O.

Goff couldn’t get it done to McVay’s satisfaction and he became a goner.

Kromer apparently couldn’t get it done to McVay’s satisfaction and HE became a goner.

I’m seeing a pattern here.

EXACTLY, CGI. You nailed it.

To do otherwise defies common sense.

So what are these Big Changes? One must know. Competition is always good. The Rams have a salary cap so Havienstien is the odd man out. How do The Rams change things up??
What Noteboom & Evans are going to sit the bench? I think this just adds to the development of this young offensive line.
Does Austin Blythe comeback ? Big change. Why is it rumored?
Brewer is just 23 & how many years are The Rams in control of his contract? That extra season only helps The Sam’s & Brewer.
What about Brian Allen ? I think he gets cut. I could bring up a off the wall opinion with he & Kromer. That wouldn’t be right, but a thought or question.
Anyway what becomes of this is anyone’s guess. Interesting in your view of this Big Change though.I’ll say the fundamentals & teaching will change though. What practice looks like will be tweaked. Zak Kromer is a good young coach.I think he has a home with The Rams. Nice to see Wes as passing game coach. Thomas deserves the Run game coaching duties.

Brian Allen! Goner ?

Cam Akers a cowbell RB.
HENDO hopefully opens his eyes a little to get more of a view of the holes.Maybe just a better design of the play & he just needs to hit the hole ?
Hopkins gets spread out instead of lining up for protection.Opens up bigger lanes ?
