sorry man. It’s rough. We put down 2 within the last year.

I really love dogs but to my wife it’s a different level. They are closer to her than her own child or me. I am not kidding. She threatened divorce if I left the door open again and let them get out. Literally the only time I have seen this type of anger or threat from my wife is in this instance.

I might not fully understand such deep connection to dogs but I know it’s as real as the love for a child.

My wife even keeps the ashes of the past dogs in urns on display in our bedroom. I guess the shrine with the urns makes her feel connected to them. I don’t even think to question it.

Anyways, we have two new dogs now that are around a year old and they are amazing dogs that we are both connected to. One is super athletic and possessive of its toys but is a passionate lover that tries to lick our faces and bite our lips. It’s like a horny teenager on viagra. The other dog is beautiful and likes to stare deep into our eyes while being petted slowly. It’s really cool the different personalities. They also love to play fight and get up on their hind legs and wrestle standing up like bears. It’s so entertaining to watch. The mellow pretty one has a Lethal butt whip she breaks out from time to time she’s a little bigger so the smaller passionate one goes flying at times on our rug. It’s always a laugh.

Man it's tough to go through this.

I'll share something I did when we had to say goodbye to our schnauzer years ago to honor him and help my wife with the loss.

His favorite place on the planet was down in Duck Key FL. We'd take him down there every summer and he was in absolute heaven. Between boat rides, eating whole live fish completely like a savage (and I mean the whole damn fish bones and all), killing iguanas, and sneaking out to patrol the streets on the island... he had a permanent human smile on his face the whole time we were there. He was a stud schnauzer... almost 40 pounds of solid muscle... and fearless.

I knew he needed to spend the rest of eternity there when he passed.

So we took his ashes down there and had a little service for him. He had a spot behind the house there in the water where he would post up for hours. The island has crystal clear water channels that flow behind the houses and he'd get down in there on the shallow ledge in water up to his neck and just post up there while we were in the backyard area. That's the spot where we let his ashes go in the water. So his ashes spread throughout the channels on HIS island.

I saved the exact GPS coordinates for that spot from my boat when nobody was looking. When we returned home, I had a bracelet made for my wife that has those coordinates engraved on it along with a couple of small rubies for the coordinate punctuation marks. I gave it to my wife as a present and put a tag on the box saying it was from our boy Harley.

She had a picture painted of him from a pic of him down there in Duck Key that I think I posted here in the "Hug Your Dog" legend thread. He has that permanent human smile all over his face that I mentioned in that pic/painting. The painting hangs in our house now and we see him smiling everyday still.

Check out that legendary thread that was started by our Brudda @VegasRam when he lost his pup years ago. It's awesome.

I lost my dog which was half Black Labrador / half Mastiff about 5 or so years ago

One of the friendliest dogs I have even seen.

My wife's name for his was Smurphy but I always called him Galumph because he was a big clumsy ass dog.

It cracked me up watching my wife's dog Goobie and Galumph slide around the house chasing each other. Galumph looked like Scooby Doo on that floor trying to run around. Always trying to run and not getting anywhere for a couple seconds.

It's a funny thing, you hear about people losing family members and yeah I'm sad for them but doesn't really effect me. But you hear someone lost their dog and I instantly start tearing up thinking about it. RIP Ahsoka.

Every time I hear the name Gooby, it reminds me of this tasteless comic:

So many heartfelt posts from so many great fans in tribute to Ahsoka! That’s beautiful.

My German Shepherd Dog, Kilo is my boy, he’s just amazing. I got him after my Basset Hound, Diesel, who was getting pretty far up in age was run over ironically by a diesel pickup. It crushed me. That was 4 years ago and still feels like yesterday.

I feel for you brother, and pray your heart heals quickly and some day you are reunited with your fur buddy again. God bless.

sorry for your loss. I'm actually more a cat person (cause i'm lazy and with the advent of auto feeders and chip encoded auto pet doors), i really just supply her with food . i've had 9 cats (including "otto" cat -- who is going to be my last pet).
that being said, I've had 1 dog in my life and that was Nate, a golden chow mix that i had for 15 years before a bad back and a positive test on a mouth tumor led me to put him to sleep. he had no clue when told to do tricks via "dog speak" -- i.e. , sit, lay down, be quiet, etc.
but if you talked to him in sentences he was all over it. first day at home and he jumped up on the bed with me and lay with his butt towards the pillows and I tried " turn around, get down, move down " all to no avail until i went with " get your dead ass up out of my face and lay down" and he immediately got up, did a 180 and laid down. right then I knew I had a winner.

may your next dog friend be just as important to you as Ahsoka Tano was.
