I hope Roger Carter makes the team!

I don't know a thing about him other than he is a UDFA who is 6'2 and 249 as a FB. We have never had a true fullback and GB uses Dillon out of BC who is the same height and weight to really help take some pressure off Rodgers and is great around the goalline. I am not saying Carter will amount to anything as good as Dillon but the concept of having a guy that big and powerful will add a new dimension to our offense.

McVay listened last year and ran the ball when we all know he wanted to throw it and it paid dividends well same can be true in adding a FB to our arsenal.

I have done a little reading about Carter and his career at Georgia State.

I do see where some draft sites list him as a FB or TE/FB but I don't think he actually played Fullback.

Geez, I think McVay and Snead have positional myopia when it comes to a FB. I've said it many times before they already have a good FB candidate on the team. Jonah Williams has 4.6 speed, is 6'5" 275 lbs, plays like a bulldozer showing good strength, he showed good hands as a receiver at his pro day, and said he was open to a position change at his pro day as well. He can be coached up as a FB just as easily as Carter. TEs don't generally block like you want your FB to block. Williams showed he can take a LT and bullrush him back into a QB. That's the kind of blocker you want in a FB. You want someone to bulldoze a hole in a gap. In short-yardage, he would be very good.

I would love to see a FB but I'd love even more to see one that is effective. I hope Carter shows he can play the position as it should be played. If the play is designed and executed properly, running with a FB can be very effective as Marty Schottenheimer showed. LBs tend to be smaller and lighter now so I'd expect it to be even more so. The Niners use a FB well and we have seen how hard it is to stop their inside runs. A good FB forces the defense to sell out to stop the run but with Robinson and Kupp, that would be a very dangerous thing to do.

Couple draft sites and undrafted FA signing reports listed him as a FB or TE/FB, and some posters have run with it. At 6' 2" / 250, Carter may be built more like a FB; and, maybe, he's projected to convert to FB but I haven't seen any articles or reports to that effect. In reading-up on him, it seems like he was a pretty good pass-receiving-TE at GA St.

I was going through some of the UDFAs last night and searching for vids on them but wasn't having much luck with this guy.

But I'll add that for anyone who has that fan boner over FB right now being a possibility maybe he's already on the roster. Skow is 6'3" and 224. He's fast (well for a FB lol). He knows the offense. He's already been used out of motion as a FB in this offense after Woody went down.

I think Skow is going to be a key piece going forward schematically. He might be our FB but it will be a more hybrid type that is used in more than just lining up in the backfield. He can motion in to give you the number advantage where you want it.

All we need him to do is block from a few offensive formations and play special teams, any receiving is just frosting on the cake.

Mundt only had 121 offensive plays in 2020 & 100 offensive plays last season, he had 347 special teams snaps in those same two years. Mundt had 4 receptions in 2020 and 1 reception for 2021. He rushed zero times in both 2020 & 2021. Carter is the better blocker imo, so TE4 seems like a real possibility for him in 2022, wherever he lines up. jmo.

I’m a utility player and a big special teams contributor. I’m used all over in many positions whether it be tight end or fullback. I’ve been split out wide as a receiver and also used as a blocker whether it be in the backfield, in-line or used as a h-back in split zone blocking the opposite DE.

It sounds like the coaches are toying with some new blocking schemes. I wonder if they will look more like the Niners run game. I wouldn’t mind that.

The ZBS takes pressure off of Olinemen because it’s easier to execute. It seems to fit with the Rams not wanting to pay Olinemen. It’s supposedly easier to replace guys. Imo it wasn’t too affective recently. Teams know how to beat it. Maybe they really will change it up, but do they have the horses to do it?

He will make the PS bank it but might become a key special teams player too. That unit became a strength so any one who joins them will have to pull up some trees. Benny Skow was a special teams ace and deserves an expanded role on offense but are there enough balls to go around? We are stacked at the skill positions but Carter offers something that we lost with Mundt. He specialises in the dirty work
