It was a long way back from our 15-65 wreckage. IIRC when Fisher first got here, he put far more of an emphasis on special teams than the previous regimes had done. He tasked Bones with finding him the best punter and kicker of the 2012 class.

Lingering memories of Patrick Peterson and Devin Hester burning our coverage teams, sometimes twice in the same game, but that came to an end in Hekker's time here. The way he would hang those punts up there meant returners had a hell of a time attempting a run back, any time they tried they usually got hit with a holding penalty that negated it.

Top special teams weapon and top punter for a long time with the Rams. And our special teams, the worst in the NFL before he came here, became the best and a key reason why the Rams finally ended their postseason drought.

That’s what helped set the tone vs the Gulls in those days!

The packers just signed a different punter, who played for the new special teams coach in Chicago

So, Bojorquez is most definitely available...

The Rams would probably bring him in for competition. He was bottom middle of the pack in NET yards. He did punt in the cold and wind out doors again. I don't how much effect that has on Net yards.

I think they find a stud college kicker on the cheap.

Agh that washed up punters highlights from last year. Oh yeah, he set every Panthers punting records last year to.
glad he was declining like everyone thought

9th in Gross Average ... 3rd in Net Average ... almost half his punts (39-of-81) inside-the-20

That's a tremendous season. All those numbers were an improvement over 2021.

The best part about Johnny Helier was that they kept him long enough that he got a Superbowl Ring with them.

How did Austin Corbett do with Carolina last year compared to the rest of The Rams O”Line?

Wonder how Long will do at TE for The Rams, but I’ll bet Jalen Ramsey does well in Miami 2023.

We can all cherry pick.I think Stafford will play excellent in 2023,but without Hekker maybe he didn’t play as well as an old Ram in 2023. YOU CANN’T KEEP every PLAYER.

Will Matt Gay be missed? Go back to when The Rams signed Johnny as a UDRFA out of OSU.The Rams didn’t resign Jones there MVP.Then cut Brown to Draft Greg the Leg.

Matt did pretty well after the Leg. Didn’t The Rams trade another Punter to Green Bay?
Then can’t tell you who punted last season, but IMO he signed a nice contract somewhere else.

WTF - whatever your problem is with Les Snead & how he finds GREAT (excellent) special team players is THE LAST THING to complain about.

IIRC Hekker was due to make near 4 mill per year on his deal, no way Rams could have paid that.
I didn’t recall but was curious and looked it up. According to Spotrac and OTC, it was three years and $7.6M.

I was OK with the Rams moving on. Cap space was tight; and I thought Hekker declined in 2021. However, the stats would indicate that he rebounded with a strong 2022, confirming my strong suspicion that I ain’t that bright.

He couldn't boom them like he used to but was still a very good punter with his directionals and nailing them inside the 20. But eventually you got to weigh the cap with the position. The muffed extra point in the super bowl was the only moment of his career I remember being actually mad at a play he did. But only once in his career is pretty good.

Overall, Hekker is the only punter I've every actually liked both on and off the field so he will be missed. Thanks for making punters people too Hekker.
Still sticking by what I said on first page... still a great punter but we had some trimming to do and a top paid punter is top of the list usually.
