Rob Gronkowski explains ‘feeling’ behind Patriots, Buccaneers trade
Rob Gronkowski is “ready” to return to the NFL and team up with old buddy Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Gronkowski, who retired last year but never closed the door on returning, came out of retirement Tuesday
and was traded from the New England Patriots, along with a seventh-round pick, to the Buccaneers for a fourth-rounder.
“I always said when I have that feeling, and it feels right, I will be ready to take the field again,”
Gronkowski told Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer. “And I have that feeling. I’m ready.”
Gronkowski will be 31 by the start of next season, and it’s unclear how a year away from the game will impact his play. Gronkowski weighted 265 lbs during his playing days but has looked significantly thinner since stepping away.
But the one they call Gronk perhaps is the greatest tight end in NFL history, and the Buccaneers couldn’t pass up an opportunity to see whether he and Brady could rekindle the fire and win a fourth championship together.
Gronkowski currently has one year at $10 million remaining on his contract. Rumors started circulating that Gronkowski could unretire after Brady signed his two-year, fully guaranteed $50 million deal with the Bucs earlier this offseason.
