I am bummed out from this news like the rest of you Rams fans.
Having an experienced clutch kicker on a playoff team is normally a big time necessity to keep advancing.
This Sam Ficken kid has some preseason experience in 2016 with the Jaguars and in 2017 with the Chiefs.
He's no doubt going to have some pressure on him but he's got 2 regular season games to build his confidence.
Going to miss GZ but Mr. Ficken is our kicker now and we will find out a lot about his mental toughness in Tennessee.

His 54-yard effort was the longest in the Big Ten and ranked tied for eighth nationally last season. Ficken led the team with 86 points last year, connecting on 15-of-23 field goals and 41-of-42 extra points. He also handled the kickoff duties, with 18 touchbacks among his 67 kicks and a 60.9 average. Entering the 2014 campaign, Ficken is 11th in school career field goals made (30) and just 20 points shy of writing his name among the top 15 scorers in school history. He has ranked among the top scorers in the Big Ten in each of the last two seasons and he continues to refine his craft, including video work with former Nittany Lion and current Chicago Bears All-Pro kicker Robby Gould. Ficken is a regular at the Nittany Lions' community service events and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. The Dean's List student owned a 3.59 cumulative grade-point average in finance entering the summer and is a potential Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America® candidate. He is on schedule to graduate in December.

If he's replaced by someone who shoots 100% here on out it wouldn't shock me. This is not a major problem. Even if new dude misses a clutch 40 yarder Just gotta think, so what, GZ wasn't a lock to make that either...

Ficken struggled mightily early in his college career but he came on very strong his last two years.

This is not the first time the Rams have lost their place-kicker. Jeff Wilkens hurt himself on the opening kickoff back in '01 or '02 and the Rams had to go for 2 after every TD because they had no one who was experienced at EXP.
I think they set an NFL record for scoring 2 point conversions in a game. Maybe one of you stat folks will know which game and what year that was.

Certainly, Goff and Co. will need to finish when they get inside the Red Zone. We need TDs now and can't simply settle for FGS knowing the best kicker in the game is not on the squad for the playoff push and for possible playoff games.
