Many people have been critical of the money the Rams are spending upon Goff. Many people point to that and the contracts to Gurley and Cook as evidence of mismanagement by the FO. I take another view. Both Gurley's and Cook's release were necessitated by injury, something not foreseeable. But looking at Goff 's contract you see why I think this FO is doing a great job in bringing in top talent and staying competitive while they do. They wisely front-loaded Goff's deal with a built-in restructure. Next year will be the hump year and even then when you compare it to the other top contracts it's not out of line. What is really important to note is after 2022 Goff's contract decreases every year making his value even greater. It also, allows the team to re-sign all that top talent they have. That is why I have said re-signing guys like Kupp, Floyd, Robinson, and Ramsey is a matter of kicking the can down the road one year.

I believe that by 2022 this COVID-19 issue will be behind us. A vaccine will likely be available probably before next season. Sellouts will be the rule not the exception in 2022 as the country normalizes. The cap will rise in 2023, and the Rams will be in great shape to afford those contracts. When you look at Goff's contract and the escalation of QB contracts in general you can see how by good structuring the Rams have made themselves into a franchise that will be a contender for a long time. All the doom and gloom prognosticators have never really looked at both the roster and the cap to see the reality of what Snead's plan is. He is building a dynasty here in LA. It is being built for today and the long term both. Outstanding work for an elite GM.

As the cost of starting QBs rises the Rams will have their cost declining! How is that a bad thing?

Good points. (y)

In addition; when we are looking to his next extension it will be right around 2023 when he’s 28. Exactly the prime of his career.

Think about that. He’s still a baby.

The reality is guys who have done way less are demanding more than Goff. He is the future and it’s very bright for Rams Fans. He’s genuinely a good guy, teammate and will continue to mature.

I have no problems with Goffs contract. In fact, It’s nice having a QB set and in place for years. Those of us who grew up in the 70s and early 80s know how important that is as a Ram fan.

As mentioned by others, he’s not even in his prime yet. I believe he’ll be much better going forward than he was in 2019.

I don't think many people were critical of Goff's contract.

Rams did the new deal after Wentz and gave Goff a little better deal with much higher guaranteed money. Considering he was drafted ahead of Wentz and has been healthier it was a market value deal. The Rams moved money to singing bonus this year to give him a lower cap hit in 2020 to free up needed cap space. The important part was to get the deal done early unlike the Cowpies did with Dak. Cowboys created more problems by waiting.

It's about the timing especially for QBs as their price tag is highly inflated compared to the other positions. Some people questioned Cooks' and Gurley's contract. Next will be Ramsey's new deal and decision on Kupp. No way around the fact that the Rams are top-heavy but, that's what happens when you want top talent like Goff, Donald, Cooks, Gurley, soon to be Ramsey and maybe Kupp with high proceed contracts. They have middle contracts for Floyd, Big A, Brockers, and Havenstein. They got a break on Whitworth's deal for this year.

Demoff and the Rams bit the bullet on Gurley's and Cooks' contracts which saves the Rams future. The Rams had to spend draft capital to replace both players with second-round draft picks Akers and Jefferson who appear very capable of filling right in. The Rams management team from Demoff to the area scouts have done a great job turning on a dime to keep the Rams competitive for this season and beyond. While the Rams spent cap space rebuilding the defense they stayed pat with the offensive line. There is only so much draft capital and cap space that Rams had to work with. Goff will make everyone around him better this year. Even though he is considered a pocket quarterback he demonstrated his ability to use play-action, pocket movement, and rollouts to keep the pass rush at bay.

They have a championship-caliber roster with no real holes. Inexperience in a few areas but with talent expected to start. They have had 3 consecutive winning seasons with postseason play in two of them and a Super Bowl appearance in one. It would have been 3 except for a couple of errant FGs. They have rising stars all over the roster with legitimate depth at key positions. As I could see early in the year that the cap was going to be ok and I said then they should have $5-$7M to start the season.

I think those who are panhandling the narrative have other agendas and have not done a real examination of this team. They have a very good FO, an elite coach, a franchise QB who's contract will be an absolute bargain after next year, and a team primed to bust out on both sides of the ball. That's my narrative and if the pundits don't like it I could care less. Everything is aligned for the Rams this year, except the virus issue. There is no question in my mind that with the talent on this team it's a true Super Bowl contender now and for years to come.

Poor FO? Look at how the Cowgirls have bungled Dak's contract and what it's going to cost the team for the next 3 years. Now look at Goff's contract and when it was signed and how it was structured. That's all the proof needed.

So i dont get into the capiology stuff too much. I tend to just look at the money from a very uneducated view and compare that to performance value.

That said, its my belief that over the next two years we will realize that we are blessed with fabulous value at the quarterback position.

Then I’ll probably get a beer and complain about some other position that is NOT a value and bringing the team down.

I mean, keep it simple. Thats what we do. Go Jared.

everybody is critical of goff's deal except for half the people in here.

every article i've read that mentions it makes some snide comments about the money the rams paid goff.

it irritates me no end. and i don't even care what those bozos think but it still makes me roll my eyes every time i see it.

Do you really think half the posters were critical of Goff's contract? I must have missed that many complaints.

I know some of the media took a negative stance as it makes for ratings and clicks.

I can't imagine if the Rams hadn't resigned Goff at all or waited like Dak and Dallas. We all suffered too long to let the franchise QB slip away. As I posted earlier the Goff contract is a fair market deal for both sides.
