In the past I would suggest 3. Re-watching today's game though, and I only see one so far and that is Littleton.. He had a hell of a game. Maybe I have missed some things, but I'd might give 1/2 to Gurley and Brown. Looking for your all thoughts. Cheers and peace.

.

yeah, littleton was everywhere. his best play was running mccaffery down from behind after he ran through half the defensive players. if littleton wasn't there it probably goes for a td.

the oline. couldn't get much going early but when they got into a groove gurley and brown found it much easier to chew up the yards.

gurley and brown. gurley made some great hard yards when given a chance. brown was his usual reliable self, busting through tackles and always making positive yardage. he was a big loss last season.

taylor rapp. great debut, always around the ball making sound tackles. there's no way they can keep him off the field. if weddle is not good to go next week i'd rather have rapp out there with johnson than christian seeing the field at the back end.

Littleton was an absolute stud. Hope that extension gets done.

I like how Gurley finished strong after a rough start.

Although he’s on the wrong side, I’d give this old soak a game ball personally.

CORY LITTLETON SETS THE TONE ON TAKEAWAYS

It didn’t take long for LB Cory Littleton to make an impact.

Los Angeles chose to defer the opening kickoff and start the game on defense, and Littleton rewarded the decision with a forced fumble and subsequent recovery that set the Rams up at the Panthers’ 33-yard line. Littleton later recorded an interception on Carolina’s second-to-last offensive drive to momentarily stall its late momentum.

I was highly impressed with Cory yesterday(y). Cory played 100% of the defensive snaps in his new starting former Mark Barron post! Currently, this is the only Ram that's been playing Light Outs & who deserves a new long term Ram contract its former UDFA Cory Littleton.

Marcus Peters does not deserve his name in the same sentence as with Cory.

He made a really nice play against McCaffrey in coverage, stuck too him and brought him down short of the 1st down marker. It was good to see. He struggled in that area last season, hopefully its something he's improved upon. And yes hopefully he gets a contract. This is his 2nd year as a starter and could really breakout into a star, even now he's one of our better defenders.

Cory Littleton Leads Rams D Over Panthers

The Los Angeles Rams began their quest to return to the Super Bowl with an ugly win in Carolina. The offense had a rough outing and looked hungover at times but the defense didn’t miss a beat.
Wade Phillips’ unit had a great outing led by Cory Littleton who recorded 14 tackles, a pick, and a fumble recovery. Cory Littleton was all over the field and played like a man looking for his own lucrative contract extension. He wasn’t the only defender who had an impact day as many Rams new and old made contributions all day.

Cory Littleton was all over the field and played like a man looking for his own lucrative contract extension. He wasn’t the only defender who had an impact day as many Rams new and old made contributions all day.

Carolina’s plan was to double and triple-team reigning defensive player of the year and demigod Aaron Donald. Donald only recorded one tackle but the Panthers focus on him allowed the rest of the defense to create havoc. Dante Fowler Jr. began his contract year with two sacks and two tackles for a loss. Clay Matthews had a sack of his own in his Rams debut. Cory Littleton led the game in tackles but not far behind were safeties John Johnson and rookie Taylor Rapp. Johnson had 11 including one for a loss. Rapp had eight and the safety duo made life a living hell for Cam Newton and his receivers.

Before leaving the game after taking a Christian McCaffrey knee to the head Eric Weddle had a solid debut. Weddle’s presence was felt all the way up until he looked like Massive Head Wound Harry.
The Rams’ defense wasn’t perfect however as they did allow McCaffrey to score twice and committed a few dumb penalties but overall they showed they’re in a much better place than last year. Their pass defense demonstrated that they aren’t as susceptible to giving up big plays as they were a year ago. Aqib Talib looked healthy and while Marcus Peters struggled at times, he no longer looks he was pulled out of the lava on Mustafar.

They still struggled on the edge as they still haven’t solidified that position but everywhere else they look every bit the unit that nearly won the Super Bowl by themselves.

The offense found its way late and once they get going the Rams have one of the most complete teams in the league. They proved that they don’t need Aaron Donald to be the eater of worlds every week to be dominant and that should scare the rest of the league.

Next week should be a massive test as they get New Orleans in a rematch of the NFC Championship. McCaffrey was a great test for the Rams since they’ll have to take on the two-headed monster of Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray.

If Cory Littleton can have another dominant performance the Rams’ defense should pass with flying colors.

Littleton starts and finishes’ Rams takeaways

by Stu Jackson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Inside linebacker Cory Littleton began the Rams’ string of takeaways against the Panthers. Appropriately, he finished with the last one too.
Los Angeles’ defense forced three turnovers in Sunday’s 30-27 win at Carolina, and it was Littleton who set the tone.

“Great athleticism,” Rams head coach Sean McVay said of Littleton. “A guy that can really compete. Defending the run, defending the pass, he’s always active.”

Littleton collected a team-high 14 total tackles, but just as important to those stops was the forced fumble and interception he added to his stat line.

The forced fumble provided L.A. with a momentum-changing play early on. Carolina reached Los Angeles’ 26-yard line, but Littleton knocking the ball loose and recovering helped stall the Panthers’ chance at taking a first quarter lead at home.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Rams were hanging on to a 10-point lead after TE Tyler Higbee’s touchdown catch and the Panthers were looking to trim the deficit to three. Carolina QB Cam Newton fired a short pass over the middle intended for TE Greg Olsen, only to get picked off by Littleton. The ensuing17-yard interception return set up Los Angeles at the Carolina 26-yard line.

“We’re in a zone defense, Cam is a readable guy. He gave me an opportunity, I read it perfectly, and I actually caught the ball today,” said Littleton, who smiled and clapped his hands in gratitude. “Don’t catch them in practice, but I catch them in a game.”

Game balls, (got lotsa balls) in order of impressiveness:
  1. Littleton- just an athlete. Maybe not prototypical ILB, but an athlete you want on the field to make good things happen.
  2. Fowler- Similar to Littleton, he just makes things happen. The sacks, yes, but he pressured the QB, and was always around the ball.
  3. Woods- he made a couple catches, while being hit, that most guys might drop. People point to Krupp, but this man is also essential for Goff, to keep the chains moving.
  4. Allen- big upgrade at Center. He played with anger in his eyes, and got downfield a few times in impressive ways.
  5. Kupp- He’s back, guys. So many clutch catches on third down. Goff seems to go to these guys in bunches.
  6. Johnson- Loved the play of all of our safeties, but I loved how active JJ was, and how willing he was to make tackles. (Unlike our pssy CBs. Those dudes need to grow a pair before New Orleans)
  7. Malcom Brown- Great second effort on many runs. He may be pushing Todd - not in effort- but in the fire in his belly.
  8. Gurley- He played great all day, and it was so nice to see his late production put the game away.
  9. Higbee- he made some big time plays, while the ink on his contract extension dries.
  10. Rapp- Great job by the rookie. Great players like this look like stars from the start. If he takes care of himself, he could be a Hall of Famer.
*The following players deserve more credit than they have been given:

  1. Hekker- his country -mile boots more than make up for the blocks- (I believe the first one was tipped as well) that is on the blocking scheme. This dude just moves field position in mighty ways.
  2. Cooks- people were down on him, but he caught a couple good balls, and drew a key PI call. As with many plays, he was open more, and our boy Goff needs to step up his field recognition.
  3. JoJo. I’ve given him crap, but he was solid in his ball handling, made a great athletic play on one punt return, and responded well after an early bad decision fielding a punt at the two yard line.
  4. Donald- Every time I Keyed on him he was hustling. Not worried a bit about his production. It was just a fluke game where he faded into the backdrop...I feel sorry for Drew Beees.
  5. Greg Zuerlein- yes he missed a fg. And kicked one out of bounds, but he booted 3 fgs. Including a 56 yarder that would have been good from 66, and consistently drills his kickoffs into the seats.
  6. Weddel- people are forgetting- before his injury- minor, I hope- he was all over the place, making plays.
The following players actually deserve some fan scrutiny for their production, or their effort:

  1. Talib- he looked lazy, often times
  2. Peters- growing tired of his act.
  3. Reynolds- haven’t heard it mentioned. He dropped 2 passes. Maybe Goff doesn’t look as bad if his hands weren’t made of jello.
  4. Our soft- underbelly- Hager? SJD? Brockers? Wade? Man, just figure it out.
  5. Goff. Had no vision. Some of his passes sailed like in last years Bears game. Come on man.
