Yes, we have fun from time to time with reports that amount to something potentially happening, “unless it doesn’t.” But, sometimes, something actually does represent an actual 50-50 proposition.

And that’s precisely what’s going on with Raiders coach Jack Del Rio. Per a league source, it’s currently a coin flip for Del Rio.

Yes, Del Rio signed an extension after the team made it to the playoffs in 2016. Without knowing how much of the deal is fully guaranteed, however, it’s impossible to know what it would cost to make a change.

The real question is what would it cost to not make a change? The Raiders will spend at least one more year in Oakland, and they’ll need to create enough excitement to get people to keep showing up. (Another year with Oakland native Marshawn Lynch may not be enough.) Beyond that, what buzz will this team take to wherever it will be in 2019 or to Las Vegas, whenever they get there?

Regardless of what happens with Del Rio, it’s believed to be a near certainty that offensive coordinator Todd Downing will be gone. Del Rio’s fate ultimately could turn on what he does in a pair of late-season games that, even with wins, may not be enough to get the team back to the playoffs.

It's no surprise that a JDR team is doing what JDR teams do.

They let their OC go after turning things around. My buddy who is huge Raider fan and close to someone in their FO told me before the season....7-8 wins. Reverting back to "Al" sort of mentality.

Right....IDK why media folk want to idolize him. He hasn't produced, he's holding up a roster spot, and has a shitty attitude when he plays.

I'm surprised it took two years, they might keep him because of the move, but Del Rio is not a Head Coach IMO and the Raiders before they can be taken seriously will have to go in another direction.

He's a head coach; he's just not a good one (imo, he's the Andy Dalton of HCs). His teams are always inconsistent. He's a lot like Fisher, but he's actually willing to cede control of his offenses.

That is simply not true. He's averaging 4.3 YPC with 7 rushing touchdowns and 0 fumbles (in limited carries). Media folk idolize him because he was the offense's driving force for a Super Bowl champion, was a Russell Wilson INT from being MVP in another Super Bowl, led the league in rushing touchdowns in his prime years (with Adrian Peterson being the same age), is nearing 10,000 career rushing yards, and produced the greatest run in NFL history (as well as several other all-time great highlights).

It just amazes me how blind some owners can be. JDR having a shot of returning tells me they need a new owner.

So happy to be a Rams fan right now.

Fisher is a good comparison, but when they hired Del Rio I knew the team would have issues and for the life of me, not sure he should have let Bill Musgrave walk. The offense was the strength of their team...Anyway Del Rio is supposed to be a defensive coach and their defense sucks. He made the right move bringing in John Pagano and firing Ken Norton, but still that defense should be better.

IMO, they will give him one more year, he'll sell them on Pagano having a full year as DC and they had to adjust to the new offense under Todd Downing. Funny Raider fans wanted Musgrave out and applauded his departure and now they wish they had him back. The Raiders did not want to lose Todd Downing, so they elevated him and chose not to renew Musgrave and history showcases that does not always work.

They elevated Downing because of his close relationship with Derek Carr, much like in Tampa when they fired Lovie to elevate Dirk Koetter to Head Coach because of his close relationship with Jameis Lanaed Winston and how is that working out?

I don’t believe that at all. Where is Carr in all of this ? If he watched Todd Gurythis season at all he would not have fumbled at the goal line.

You can blame every you want . Jack Del’rio let the season get away from him.

That CrBtree thing & Lynxh thing was. Desgrace. So after Lynch why does he let CrBtree get away with his incident?

The Ref’s Ways kill them as well. Putting paper between a ball & saying it’s a first down .

The Ref’s have always had a thing for the Raiders for years now. They tucked that card deep inside their Chirstmas stocking on that call.

WTF are you talking about.

My post was about Marshawn Lynch's attitude. It sucks. End of story.

For the 1st half of the season he barely got over 60 yards in a game. That was his high. Is he being featured more lately, yes so that skews the stats.

No they don't idolize him because of his postseason play. They idolize him because they want to try and make him a positive player image, when in reality he's not even close to that.

He has a piss poor attitude on the field (and off) and gets fines, penalties, and the occasional ejection. So eff him.
